Role

Theatre Practitioner/Nurse – Band 5 within the Theatre Department at William Harvey Hospital. We have 12 theatres covering specialities from Trauma, General Surgery, Gynae, ENT, Max Fax, Ophthalmology, Breast, Emergency and Obstetrics. You may be required to work between all of these theatres. Main duties of the job

Responsibilities include:

* Communicate effectively with patients and their relatives, ensuring accurate and seamless information is conveyed and documented.
* Adhere to quality initiatives within the nursing environment and maintain the highest standards of care at all times.
* Assist in the development of clinical protocols and review them in line with service needs in conjunction with the Ward/Unit manager.
* Ensure accurate and legible patient records are kept in line with professional and legal requirements.
* Promote and maintain effective working relationships and communications with consultants, medical staff, nurse colleagues and other multi-agency professionals.
* Act as the patient’s advocate and liaise with all members of the multidisciplinary team.
* Participate in planning effective, timely, and safe discharges in Day Surgery Ward.
* Be clinically competent in all areas of advanced practice relevant to the post.
* Work to eliminate all avoidable infection by modelling infection prevention and control practices to staff and patients’ visitors.
* Have good knowledge of Recovery.
* Take direct responsibility for ensuring cleaning standards are maintained throughout the shift when in charge.

Qualifications and Training

* Demonstrate patient-focused approach
* Registered Nurse (NMC) or Registered (ODP)
* Willingness to complete Preceptorship Programme if required (for newly qualified staff)
* Knowledge of recovery
* Evidence of facilitating learning in practice
* Evidence of ongoing personal and professional development
* Mentor Qualification or ENB 998


Clinical Skills and Experience

* Basic IT skills
* Ability to develop working relationships with others
* Time management and personal organisation skills
* Calm under pressure
* Ability to work flexibly and collaboratively
* Good interpersonal skills
* Able to converse at ease with customers and provide advice in accurate spoken English
* Good Health and safety knowledge
* Intermediate Life Support


Governance

* Participates in regular clinical governance activity with evidence of annual audit project or quality improvement activity
* Understands principles and concepts of clinical governance


Personal/professional attributes

* Ensure registration with the relevant professional body is maintained and practice within its codes of conduct
* Ability to direct and organise teams
* Understands the role of human factors in healthcare and non-technical skills for patient safety
* Able to juggle a large number of demands by setting priorities and planning effectively
* Able to manage conflicting and unpredictable demands
