Overview
Residential Child Care Worker role at Manchester City Council. Location: Willow Vue Children's Home, 75 Crossley Street, Gorton, Manchester, M18 8BD. This is a full-time, day-based residential care role within a 6-bed home.
Working Hours: 35 hours per week (full-time) arranged over a 28-day/4-week rota, including earlies, lates, sleeps, weekends and Bank Holidays.
Contract Type: Full Time, Permanent. Additional Payments: 10% Flexibility payment. Closing Date: 15 September 2025.
This role may require pre-employment checks and compliance with safeguarding and DBS requirements as described below.
Responsibilities
* Provide care and support for children aged 11–17 with complex needs, maintaining stability and positive outcomes.
* Establish and maintain supportive relationships with the young people to challenge patterns of behaviour and support development.
* Collaborate with appropriate stakeholders to assess individual needs and contribute to positive outcomes.
* Create a home culture and ethos focused on the needs of the young people, encouraging development, maturation and growth.
* Support the ongoing personal development of staff to meet young people’s needs.
* Work as part of a team to maintain high standards of care and service delivery within Willow Vue.
Qualifications and Requirements
* Diploma Level 3 in Working with Children and Young People in Residential Care or equivalent; or willingness to undertake Diploma Level 3 within 6 months of appointment.
* Medical Clearance – Pre-placement health assessment (PPHA).
* DBS clearance (Enhanced Disclosure) as part of the post requirements; information handled confidentially in line with DBS Code of Practice.
* Essential experience: 12 months of experience working with children, young people and families; ability to work in environments with babies, children and young adults may be required.
* Full driving licence is desirable to drive the home’s vehicle.
* Ability to work in a fixed location and use specialist equipment as required.
