Clinical Support Worker (Keswick)

Job type: 72 hours in total

An exciting opportunity has arisen at Keswick Hospital, which is part of the Keswick and Solway ICC for HCAs to join the nursing team on the ward. Keswick is situated in the Lake District National Park and is a popular tourist spot. The market town is busy, full of shops, pubs and cafes, located on the edge of Derwent Water at the head of the beautiful Borrowdale Valley.

We are looking for dynamic, motivated and enthusiastic Clinical Support Workers to work as part of our dedicated nursing team. The ward has 16 beds, we take patients directly from home or stepped down from the two acute hospital sites within the Trust. We specialise in rehabilitation and end‑of‑life care.


Main duties of the job

* Direct patient care
* Assist and promote independence in washing and dressing patients
* Assist patients in their rehab goals
* Assist with patients' nutritional needs
* Provide care for patients approaching end of life
* Take observations and upload them onto Web V

The successful applicant should have a care certificate relevant to this post; however, it is not essential for the right candidate. All training relevant to this role will be provided by the Trust and by your new colleagues on the ward. You must be able to demonstrate the ability to work within a changing environment and have good communication skills. The post holder will deliver nursing care covering a 24‑hour period including public holidays and weekends, supported by registered staff on duty.

Disclosure and Barring Service Check

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975. It will be necessary to submit a Disclosure to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions. The cost of the DBS will be met through salary deduction:

* Standard Check: £21.50 + £6.50 admin = £28.00 (deducted over 4 months or one‑off)
* Enhanced Check: £49.50 + £6.50 admin = £56.00 (deducted over 4 months or one‑off)

Person Specification


Qualifications

* Level 3 vocational qualification or equivalent competency in a range of patient and clinical care duties
* National Care Certificate or commitment to complete within 12 weeks of commencing employment
* Numeracy and Literacy Level 2
* Undertaken relevant additional training for Clinical Support Workers


Knowledge and Experience

* Experience of working in health or social care
* Experience of undertaking and recording clinical observations and escalating changes or findings
* Working knowledge of legislation underpinning care provision
* Understanding of the importance of robust, accurate, clear, timely documentation
* Insight into behaviours and skills of a carer and the need for effective team work
* Knowledge of safeguarding
* Understanding work‑related boundaries
* Awareness of GDPR and the need for confidentiality
* Familiarity with current NHS and social care policies
* Nursing policies and procedures
* Evidence of understanding of Trust business
* Experience of working in the Trust previously


Skills and Aptitudes

* Excellent interpersonal, communication and active listening skills
* Ability to adopt appropriate styles and methods of communication
* Time‑keeping, planning and prioritisation skills
* Basic IT skills to use electronic patient records and other Trust systems
