People Advisor – Maternity Cover

Hours: 37 hours per week
This post is for Maternity Cover for approximately 12 months, until July 2026
This is a key appointment, offering you the chance to apply your HR expertise in the Heart of Yorkshire Education Group. With a combined turnover of £36 million, the Group currently employs around 900 staff, and supports over 10,000 full-time students and 2,000 higher education students across three campus locations, Wakefield, Castleford, and Selby – all in the Heart of Yorkshire!
Our people team has worked incredibly hard over the last 12 months to support an amazing college environment for both staff and students and we’re seeking to build on this achievement with the appointment of a People (HR) Advisor. You’ll be working in a fast-paced environment, with a team that’s at the heart of a packed and exciting people agenda.
Reporting to the People Relations Manager, you’ll work within a dedicated area of responsibility - promising you widespread exposure to the complete HR mix in a role that will involve:
1. Providing expert HR guidance, advice, training and coaching to managers on all operational issues, including performance, disciplinary and absence management
2. Improving our service delivery and focus through identifying trends and championing change
3. Contributing to and managing the recruitment and selection processes, ensuring quality and consistency in service
4. Leading on the identification, introduction, and promotion of wellbeing initiatives
5. Writing and consulting on new and revised Group people policy.
Able to make an immediate contribution, you’re likely to be an experienced HR professional, who holds a Level 5 qualification in Human Resources, and can demonstrate:
6. A solid generalist HR background and a strong commercial outlook, evidenced by a proven track record in a similar role
7. Good practical knowledge of ‘best practice’ HR principles and procedures, particularly in respect of employment law and performance management
8. Excellent communication, presentation and relationship building skills, plus the ability to promote/drive change and add real value to overall business performance.
