Leonardo has an exciting opportunity for a number of Senior Mechanical Engineers whose primary role will be the design and development of Electronic Warfare (EW) products, both new and legacy, at our Luton site.
The Senior Engineer will contribute their knowledge and experience to the design of mechanical engineering solutions, demonstrating an understanding of design, stress, thermal, pressure, and test requirements.
The role inherently requires an aptitude for problem solving and managing multiple system requirements across various Leonardo business groups.
Responsibilities:
1. Perform mechanical design and development using 3D CAD software with a "hands-on" approach.
2. Deliver innovative, optimized engineering solutions against requirements, within budget and timescales.
3. Work in accordance with the mechanical and company design lifecycles.
4. Manage own elements of the engineering work package.
5. Formulate prototype designs and produce physical representations.
6. Provide key support to critical technical problem investigations and deliver effective solutions.
7. Contribute towards continual improvement in product manufacturability through effective relationship building and design guidance/liaison with other engineering functions.
8. Conduct preliminary (sizing) structural analyses (hand calculations and Creo Simulate).
9. Support visits and meetings at UK sites and with suppliers as required.
10. Possess a technical or science degree, or equivalent, with demonstrable aerospace-related experience in electronics packaging.
11. Have experience in problem solving and concurrent engineering practices, using a structured, logical approach to investigate issues and solve problems effectively across functions.
12. Have experience in mechanical engineering detailed design, including engineering design, analysis, tolerance studies (including GD&T), and generation of technical documentation (including an MBD approach) and data packs to standards like BS8888.
13. Understand material selection, machining, manufacturing techniques, and employ them to achieve optimal DFx approaches.
14. Be highly competent in CAD tools, preferably Creo.
15. Have understanding of ERP, PLM, and PDM systems; experience with Teamcenter Unified and SAP is beneficial.
16. Appreciate fundamental business principles, drivers, and key customers, with the ability to make effective trade-offs considering cost, quality, and schedule.
17. Stay informed of industry trends, including new tools, techniques, and technologies in Mechanical Engineering.
18. Be a Chartered Engineer registered with a recognized organization such as IMechE, RAeS, IED, IET, or equivalent through experience.
