Our client is now seeking a Principal Platform Architect to lead the design and delivery of large-scale cloud platforms underpinning some of the most ambitious transformation programmes in government.
Location: UK Wide (Hybrid, excluding London)

The Role – Principal Platform Architect
As a Principal Platform Architect, you will be accountable for leading the delivery of secure, scalable cloud platforms that enable business transformation and improve user outcomes at national scale.
The Principal Platform Architect will operate as a senior technical leader within multi-disciplinary agile teams, building shared understanding of outcomes, architectural complexity, and delivery risks. You will establish architectural principles, set strategic platform direction, and ensure both functional and non-functional requirements are met across highly complex environments.
This role is ideal for a Principal Platform Architect who thrives in secure environments, enjoys shaping cloud strategy at scale, and is passionate about using technology to deliver meaningful public impact.
Your Responsibilities:
* Lead the design and delivery of cloud platforms supporting large-scale digital and cloud transformation programmes
* Shape migration strategies from legacy to modern cloud-native environments
* Define platform blueprints, standards, and guardrails across complex ecosystems
* Provide architectural leadership across IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS environments
* Translate technical strategy into clear, outcome-focused delivery plans
* Build strong relationships with senior stakeholders, including Director and C-level audiences
* Guide executive decision-making by clearly articulating technical trade-offs and value cases
* Collaborate with multi-disciplinary agile teams to align architecture with delivery
* Drive platform modernisation initiatives, including web-based application deployment and cloud optimisation
* Act as a trusted advisor across business and technical teams
* Mentor and develop architects and engineers within the wider capability
* Contribute to account strategy, growth opportunities, and technology thought leadership
* Act as a technology ambassador for the client within the Public Sector ecosystem
Key Requirements:
* Active SC or DV clearance
* Proven experience leading delivery of platforms underpinning large-scale cloud transformation
* Experience with cloud migration, application modernisation, and deployment of web-based applications
* Demonstrated experience making strategic technology decisions that drive positive customer outcomes
* Strong experience engaging senior and executive stakeholders, translating complex technical information into business value
* Hands‑on experience across major public cloud providers such as Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud Platform (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS)
* A passion for coaching, mentoring, and developing others
* A desire to work on complex and ambitious Public Sector programmes
