Job Summary
The nutrition lead is a 2 PA post or 2x 1PA roles which is a new consultant /senior doctor role to support nutrition services within Great Western Hospital and within the gastroenterology department working with thedietetics. SALT, gastroenterology, surgery and in the community team.
Main duties of the job
Oversight of care for outpatients and inpatients with complex nutritional needs including parenteral and enteral nutrition.Provision of a nutrition consultation service with support to the dietetics team and SLT.Provide expert technical advice/ skills in relation to both central venous access devices and insertion of endoscopically delivered nutrition access devices.Lead for the PEG service.Participate in the ongoing development of a comprehensive Nutrition Service at GWH through maintaining key working relationships with key stakeholders to support innovative service development and expansion.Support for the neuromuscular services.Participation at multi-disciplinary team meetings as part of the care provided to nutrition patents.

Oversight of diagnostic and basic therapeutic endoscopy for nutritional disorders.Support for physical aspects of eating disorders for in-patients in conjunction with mentalhealth services.Oversight of patients with functional nutritional issues.Support to dieticians with escalation of issues in relation to MUST.

Qualifications
Qualifications Essential
* MRCP, FRCS or equivalent
* Completion of specialist training in a relevant specialty
Knowledge Essential
* Knowledge of central venous access
* Knowledge of eating disorders and re-feeding syndrome
* Full understanding of the consent process and MCA
Desirable
* Experience of neuromuscular patients and unsafe swallow
Experience Essential
* Experience of PEG insertion, consent process through to post insertion management
* Experience of managing patients on TPN
Desirable
* Experience of malabsorption and its management
