Apply for the Marie Curie Healthcare Assistant - Lothian Fast Track Service role at Marie Curie UK.
Company Description
Marie Curie is the UK’s leading end‑of‑life charity. We are the largest non‑NHS provider of end‑of‑life care in the UK, the only provider across all four nations, delivering community nursing and hospice care across the country while providing information and support on all aspects of dying, death, and bereavement. Our leading research pushes the boundaries of what we know about good end‑of‑life, and our campaigns fight for a world where everyone gets to have the best possible quality of life while living with an illness, they’re likely to die from.
Job Description
We’re looking for compassionate and empathetic Healthcare Assistants to join our dedicated team delivering end‑of‑life care across the Lothians. As a Healthcare Assistant, you’ll work in pairs as well as on your own at times, travelling to patients’ homes to provide hands‑on personal and emotional support. No two homes are the same, and your sensitivity to each patient’s environment will be key. You’ll assist with personal care, medication, and sometimes meal preparation—bringing comfort and dignity to those in their final days. This short‑term, fast‑paced service supports patients recently discharged from hospital or those nearing the end of life, including individuals with palliative need. You’ll collaborate closely with district nurses, social care teams (HSCP), and hospice staff, and may be assigned to support a single patient or, on occasions, support other teams within the hospice. If you’re motivated by making a real impact and thrive in a role that blends clinical care with heartfelt connection, we’d love to hear from you.
What we’re looking for:
* A minimum of six months’ recent experience delivering care in a health or social care setting
* A full UK driving licence and access to a car for travel across the Lothians
* A relevant Level 2 qualification in Health and Social Care, such as NVQ Level 2, NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Healthcare Support Services, BTEC Level 2, or an equivalent
* Registered with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC), or willing to register upon appointment
* Ability to work effectively as part of a team, while also being confident working independently when required
Employment Details
* Salary: Marie Curie Clinical Pay Scale Band 2 (£25,694 pro rata – £27,900 pro rata)
* Contract: Permanent Part Time hours up to 37.5
* Based at Marie Curie Edinburgh Hospice, with travel required to support patients and services within the surrounding communities
Benefits You’ll Love
* Annual leave allowance 27 days plus 10 public holidays (pro rata)
* Competitive policy for parental/sick leave
* Continuous professional development
* Industry leading training programmes
* Season ticket loan for travelling to and from work
* Defined contribution pension schemes
* Marie Curie Group Personal Pension Scheme
* Loan schemes for bikes, computers and satellite navigation systems
* Introduce a friend scheme
