Overview
We are seeking an Assistant Accountant to join our team. This role is vital within the Group Transport Finance Team, focusing on reconciling our backhauls with customer central summaries. You will support both operational and financial aspects of the business, ensuring adherence to management accounts processes. The role involves challenging current processes and promoting continuous improvement across the team.
Our function combines daily commercial and financial transport operations with strategic controls to maximize value for our customers and the wider group.
The position is based at our Sainsbury's distribution centre in Northampton. After initial training, the role will be hybrid, with 3 days in the office and 2 days remote.
How will you contribute?
* Weekly reconciliation of Wincanton Backhaul to Sainsbury’s central summaries, identifying anomalies in kilometres/hours reported to ensure accuracy.
* Processing weekly internal cross charges between Wincanton contracts.
* Serving as the primary contact for BAU Finance colleagues to raise issues and provide reporting solutions.
* Collaborating with the Wincanton Invoicing team to resolve queries promptly.
* Supporting the reduction of bad debt and overdue customer accounts.
* Assisting with annual rate reviews for Backhaul lanes to ensure ongoing profitability.
* Communicating effectively to keep stakeholders informed of risks or opportunities within the P&L.
* Resolving and escalating site finance and operations queries related to the backhaul P&L.
* Providing accurate reports to demonstrate Backhaul profitability to Wincanton and customers.

* Excellent PC skills, especially in Excel.
* Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret large data sets.
* A self-starter with excellent time management, motivation, and problem-solving skills.

* Willingness to travel across sites as needed.
