Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity to be instrumental in the transformation and expansion of an existing enhanced pathway within an established and successful talking therapies service. The post holder will be open to working in a team that values interdisciplinary support and advice, and places emphasis on developing good interpersonal relationships.

The post holder will provide a specialised clinical psychology/therapy service for people referred to talking therapies, working with cases presenting with greater complexity/chronicity. The post holder will provide specialist assessment, formulation and interventions for a clinical caseload. Working in an integrated and inclusive style you will work closely with the MDT to support the development of individual treatment planning for patients with complex needs within the service. You will provide specialist advice, consultation, support and training to other staff, and play an active role in supervision of therapists, service developments and governance within the service as required.

The post holder will propose and implement evidenced based practice, utilising research skills for audit and service developments.


Main duties of the job

To provide assessments for specialist psychological interventions/individual therapy based on complex data from a variety of sources to service users referred to the service. Sources of data include: observations, self-report measures, semi-structured interviews with clients, their families and other professionals involved in the client’s care.

To be responsible for implementing a range of psychological interventions for individuals, carers, families and groups within and across teams. Developing and refining formulations across a range of clients and psychological models


To manage a therapy caseload providing evidence based psychological therapies to service users seen within the service in line with targets agreed with the Service Manager


To provide clinical supervision to therapist within the service in line with Trust supervision policy and IAPT guidelines.


To work collaboratively with service users, families and the multidisciplinary team to communicate information concerning the assessment, including formulations and recommendations of treatment and management using methods of proven efficacy.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Collect, collate, evaluate and report information maintaining accurate clinical records in the management of service users receiving psychological interventions including electronic data entry.

To organise and implement specialist psychological advice, guidance, consultation and training to other professionals contributing directly to clients’ formulation, diagnosis and treatment.

To contribute to risk assessment and risk management of individual service users and provide general advice to other professionals on other aspects of risk assessment and management.

To communicate in a skilled and sensitive manner to service users, carers and relevant professionals, information about assessments, formulations and treatment plans.

To provide advice, consultation and training to other team members for their provision of psychologically based interventions to help improve service user functioning

To provide clinical placements for trainee clinical psychologists ensuring that trainees acquire the range of skills relevant to working within a primary care mental heath setting


To also receive regular and appropriate clinical supervision on an individual basis.


To contribute to training and supervision of other members of the team

Qualifications


Essential criteria

* Doctorate in Clinical/Counselling Psychology and registration with the HCPC or BABCP/BACP /UKCP accredited CBT/therapist with additional training in for example EMDR/DBT/CAT


Experience


Essential criteria

* Demonstrable experience of delivering highly specialist psychological assessments and interventions within a mental health environment.
* Experience of working within multidisciplinary services in mental health
* Previous experience of offering clinical supervision
* Experience of working with step 3 cases with high levels of complexity/chronicity
* Experience of providing clinical supervision to other psychological therapists


Knowledge


Essential criteria

* Knowledge of professional issues in psychology and psychological therapies
* Knowledge of the application of clinical governance and risk management policies
* Knowledge of contemporary legislation relevant to the delivery of mental health and psychological services

* Well developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, highly technical and clinically sensitive information to service users, carers and other professional colleagues
* Ability to negotiate the interface between Primary and Secondary Care services
* Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment and intervention frequently requiring sustained and intense concentration
* Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups
* Ability to prioritise work, manage waiting lists, meet deadlines and revise work plans accordingly
