Division
The Water Consultancy Division is the centre of excellence for water and wastewater challenges, offering diverse and technically challenging work. Our multidisciplinary teams provide advisory services, feasibility studies, design, construction support and site supervision.
Overview of the Role
We have a strong track record in providing flood risk services. Our teams model, design and deliver flood resilience schemes worldwide, including award‑winning projects such as the Leeds Flood Alleviation Scheme and the Avonmouth & Severnside Economic Area Ecological Mitigation and Flood Defence Project. We deliver Flood Risk Assessments for new developments and lead Nature‑Based Solutions for flood risk management.
Key Responsibilities
* Undertaking and checking economic appraisals for Flood Alleviation Schemes, delivering Flood Risk Assessments, and conducting reservoir flood studies.
* Preparing business cases to secure funding for Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management Grants.
* Conceptualising and scoping hydraulic modelling approaches.
* Producing and checking high‑quality reports for clients.
* Mentoring and training junior staff in all stages of flood risk management.
* Developing project management skills and leading business development through client engagement.
Candidate Specification
Essential
* Experience delivering flood risk studies, including option appraisals in line with English Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management Appraisal Guidance.
* Experience preparing business cases.
* Degree level qualification in hydrology, geography, economics, mathematics, civil engineering or related discipline.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills.
* Well‑organised and able to prioritise workload with minimal supervision.
* Understanding of health, safety and environmental priorities.
Desirable
* Chartered or incorporated with an appropriate professional body (e.g. ICE, CIWEM, IMA).
* Project management experience.
* Engineering design experience.
* Professional consultancy experience in flood risk management.
