Barnardo's Works is an employability service working in partnership with associated employers to provide young people aged 16-29 (and parents up to the age of 35 in Dundee), with a unique blend of personal support and accredited training, matched with quality work experience and the opportunity for sustainable, independent employment. This is a new, unique role within our team, and we have 2 vacancies.

Barnardo's is delighted to be part of the ”All in Dundee” Consortium of Third Sector Training Providers led by ENABLE Works in Dundee. This project is funded by Dundee City Council, it is a full-time position, 37 hours per week, and 100% of working hours will be dedicated to the role of Employability Worker. The successful candidates will be responsible for contributing towards the delivery of the Discover Work Partnership's Positive Destinations Framework, which has the following mission statement: “Every young person in Dundee is entitled to access a suitable and appropriate post-school opportunity.” These new posts will be dedicated to providing person-centred, individualised support to young people who have left or are leaving Off-Site Education; working with the young people to support them on their journey towards a positive destination.

Dundee City Council's Offsite Education Service supports children and young people who have disengaged from full-time mainstream education. Rockwell Learning Centre is the learning centre of Dundee's Offsite Education Service, providing secondary education for up to 45 young people from S1 – S5. Dundee City Council and Barnardo's vision is that No One is Left Behind and that the Employability Pathway provision delivered is inclusive to all. It is therefore imperative that a targeted approach is delivered for Rockwell pupils (leavers and post-school) to ensure they are supported to access the same opportunities as all other young people across Dundee.

Key roles & responsibilities will include:

1. Conduct initial assessments and jointly agree goals and action plans with each young person to ensure that a person-centred and trauma-informed approach is adopted when delivering personal development, employability and vocational activity.
2. Build strong working relationships with Rockwell School Staff and partners supporting young people within and out with the school environment to develop a clear understanding of the support needs of each young person and how best to support their transition and journey towards employment.
3. Support young people to achieve SQA Personal Development and Employability qualifications and industry accreditation.
4. Support each young person to connect with their local community through gaining a better understanding of the support organisations and opportunities within their local community and the wider Dundee-Community; supported via visits to local services, community organisations and employers, sourcing volunteering and work placement opportunities and organising team building activities.
5. Work with hope and support each young person to believe in their potential.

Whilst the full pay band and salary range is advertised, our approach to starting salaries is to appoint between the minimum to mid-point of the pay band – this ensures that pay steps are available to reward our colleagues annually based on their contribution to excellence and alignment to our values and behaviours.
