Maintenance Craftsman (Mechanical) (Shift Working)

The closing date is 04 August 2025

The Estates Department provides comprehensive maintenance, repair, and installation services for buildings, grounds, engineering services, and associated equipment throughout the Trust.

You must have completed a recognised Mechanical or Building Services apprenticeship and gained extensive experience in building engineering services and plant maintenance, supported by a BTEC HNC level, City and Guilds, relevant post-apprenticeship training, or equivalent experience.

You must hold a current UK (manual) driving licence and reside within half an hour's travel time to fulfill on-call duties.

The role is Monday to Friday, with participation in an emergency on-call rota, and offers opportunities for overtime and weekend work. Please see the attached shift pattern.

Salary - £29,970 - 36,483 per annum plus local RRP (£3,277 per annum), with an approximate £1,000 per annum on-call retainer, overtime, 27 days holiday, and a voluntary pension scheme.

Base Location: Royal Bournemouth Hospital

Person Specification


Qualifications

* HNC in Building Services, plus specialist training and experience to graduate level, or equivalent gained through a relevant apprenticeship, supplemented by additional specialist knowledge through short courses and continuing professional development (CPD).
* Authorised/Responsible and/or Competent Person in one or more of the following specialisms: LV Electrical Systems, HV Electrical Systems, Heating and Ventilation Systems, Decontamination, Safe Water Systems, Medical Gas Pipeline Systems (MGPS), Confined Spaces.


Experience

* Extensive knowledge of mechanical and/or plumbing systems in NHS premises.
* In-depth understanding of relevant legislation and technical guidance.
* Familiarity with all relevant Health Technical Memoranda.
* Significant experience working within complex engineering/building environments.
* Knowledge of electrical systems in NHS premises.
* Skilled in maintenance, fault finding, testing, and repair of a wide range of complex engineering services and equipment, with the ability to work independently in technical environments while adhering to health and safety standards.


Other requirements specific to the role

* Participation in outside of normal hours on-call rota.
* Full UK driving licence.


Language requirement

* Ability to speak English sufficiently to undertake the role.
