Position Title: Engineer, Senior Engineer, or Staff Engineer - Power Generation Controls
Location: Richmond, VA
Position Status: Full Time
Position Description:
This position provides technical leadership and hands-on expertise in SCADA and PLC systems for utility-scale power generation, including solar and battery storage facilities, with occasional support for traditional power generation stations. Responsibilities include designing, implementing, and maintaining industrial control systems, programming and configuring controllers, commissioning, testing, troubleshooting, and ensuring compliance with industry standards, codes, and regulatory requirements. The role also involves evaluating new technologies to improve plant performance and reliability, overseeing vendor support, developing engineering specifications, and supporting multiple projects concurrently.
Responsibilities
* Design, implement, and maintain industrial control systems for utility-scale power generation (solar, battery storage, and traditional generation as needed).
* Program and configure controllers, perform commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting of SCADA/PLC systems.
* Ensure compliance with industry standards, codes, and regulatory requirements.
* Evaluate new technologies to improve plant performance and reliability.
* Oversee vendor support and develop engineering specifications.
* Support multiple projects concurrently and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
Required Skills/Education
* Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering preferred (other engineering disciplines may be considered).
* Engineer: 2+ years of relevant professional engineering experience.
* Senior Engineer: 5+ years of relevant professional engineering experience.
* Staff Engineer: 8+ years of relevant professional engineering experience.
* Strong knowledge of industrial control systems, power plant controls, solar generation, and battery storage.
* Hands-on experience with SCADA, PLCs, inverters, protection relays, network communications, and endpoint devices.
* Proficiency in operating systems, control system software, and communications software.
* Knowledge of Ethernet network switches, serial digital communications, and protocols such as Modbus and DNP.
* Strong technical leadership, problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
* Ability to manage multiple projects and work both independently and collaboratively.
