We are seeking an Engineering Manager to join our Edinburgh bakery. You will drive innovation across planned maintenance, stores, and facilities, ensuring engineering activities are delivered efficiently, sustainably, and in line with business objectives. Through strong leadership and robust controls, you will help maintain optimal asset performance, reduce downtime, and support high-quality product delivery.

Responsibilities
* Budget Management: Oversee and control departmental budgets, including labour and repair & replacement (R&R) costs.
* Health & Safety Compliance: Ensure legal responsibility for the safety of employees, contractors, and visitors through risk assessments, safe systems of work, permits, and regular reviews aligned with legislation.
* Operational Leadership: Contribute to engineering management decisions and performance tracking through KPIs.
* Team Coordination & Development: Lead, train, and motivate the engineering team to meet objectives and foster continuous improvement.
* Maintenance Strategy: Manage a proactive maintenance programme to maximise plant availability, including calibration, servicing, and repairs.
* Work Request Execution: Prioritise and complete production work requests efficiently, aiming for 75%+ weekly completion.
* Facilities Management: Maintain site infrastructure to audit-ready standards via the Facilities Manager.
* Stores Oversight: Ensure adequate stock levels of engineering spares through effective stores management.
* Web Systems & Standards: Manage web purchasing and maintenance to meet operational standards.
* IT & Reporting Systems: Develop and transition maintenance and production reporting systems.
* Supplier & Contract Management: Review supplier contracts to improve service, cost, and quality.
* Employee Relations: Collaborate with HR to resolve grievances promptly and effectively.
* Continuous Improvement: Drive engineering, stores, and facilities functions toward world-class standards.
* Resource Planning: Strategically allocate weekend and web technician resources to minimise downtime.
Qualifications
* Relevant Engineering Qualification (Degree or Time-Served Apprenticeship or equivalent)
* Proven experience leading engineering teams of 10+ in a fast-paced production setting
* Previous experience as a Maintenance Manager in a manufacturing or FMCG environment
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to foster positive employee relations
* Adaptability to rapidly reorganize in response to changing operational needs
* Skilled in managing challenging teams and conflict resolution
* Knowledge of planned maintenance systems (e.g., Shire)
* Proficient in MS Office, especially Excel
