Role: Gas Engineer, Heating Team
As a Gas Engineer, you will service, repair and maintain domestic gas appliances and system components, specifically boilers, fires and cookers.
Pay: £42,232.59 per annum
Benefits: van, fuel card, standard tools, PPE, uniform, and the ability to earn extra income through the call‑out rota.
Typical week
* You’ll start the week by checking your schedule and vehicle stock, replenishing any missing items and collecting materials from the supplier.
* Service domestic gas boilers in local properties and complete digital paperwork via the in‑house management system.
* Attend a call‑out for a faulty combi boiler and diagnose and repair ignition issues.
* Carry out annual servicing on oil or gas boilers, replace worn components and test safety controls.
* Attend a toolbox talk with your heating colleagues and discuss ways of working and team performance.
* Assist a trainee on a plumbing job, replacing a kitchen tap and checking for leaks.
* Emergency call‑out to a property with no heating, diagnose and replace a faulty thermostat.
* Routine maintenance on a gas fire and cooker, ensuring all appliances meet safety standards.
* Install a new gas boiler, using power tools in accordance with safety regulations and testing and commissioning the system.
* Attend a customer feedback review meeting and discuss service improvements.
* Final service call of the week—repair a leaking radiator and bleed the system.
Qualifications, skills, attributes and experience
Must be gas qualified and have the qualifications below. Desirable: OFTEC Oil, Unvented Hot Water, Air Source Heat Pumps.
* Appropriate experience in working in the social housing maintenance industry.
* The ability to carry out Landlord Gas Safety Check and input information using an in‑house management system.
* The ability to understand and interpret work instructions.
* The ability to trace, diagnose and rectify faults.
* The ability to establish and maintain good customer relationships.
* The ability to assist all other trades when required.
* The ability to carry out plumbing emergency repairs.
* The ability to communicate on a one‑to‑one basis and complete work certificates and documentation on a PDA as well as paper when required.
* Experience of oil and commercial boilers.
* Experience in servicing/maintaining air source heating units.
* Experience of servicing/maintaining unvented hot water systems.
* The ability to work with the minimum of supervision or as part of a team.
* An understanding of commercial heating systems and Air Source Heat Pumps.
