Applications are invited for a full-time (10PA) Consultant post in the Department of Renal Medicine and Transplantation at the Royal London Hospital within Barts Health NHS Trust. This post would be ideally suited for any individual wishing to develop a broad interest in renal medicine including dialysis and transplantation. The department is one of the largest and busiest in the UK that provides comprehensive whole-pathway renal & transplant care from the hub in Whitechapel to six networked kidney centres

Main duties of the job

Applications are invited for a full-time (10PA) Consultant post in the Department of Renal Medicine and Transplantation at the Royal London Hospital within Barts Health NHS Trust. This post would be ideally suited for any individual wishing to develop a broad interest in renal medicine including dialysis and transplantation. The department is one of the largest and busiest in the UK that provides comprehensive whole-pathway renal & transplant care from the hub in Whitechapel to six networked kidney centres. There is a strong academic tradition within the Centre for Translational Medicine & Therapeutics at the William Harvey Research Institute (Queen Mary, University of London), along with the the Diabetic Kidney Centre in East London. There is also a commitment to excellence in undergraduate and post-graduate teaching. The post will provide unique opportunities to work across sites aimed at improving outcomes for our patients in East London.

Applicants should have full registration with the GMC and be on the Specialist Register or be within 6 months of their CCT.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

1. MB BS, or equivalent
2. MRCP or equivalent
3. Entry on the General Medical Council (GMC)
4. Certificate of completion of training (CCT) (or proposed CCT within 6 months of interview) or Certificate of eligibility for specialist registration (CESR)

Desirable criteria

5. Higher degree, e.g. MD/PhD

Knowledge/Experience

Essential criteria

6. Widespread broad based knowledge of all aspects of renal medicine, dialysis and transplantation.
7. Able to undertake Native and transplant renal biopsies independently without supervision.

Desirable criteria

8. Medical insertion of peritoneal dialysis catheters

Training Expected

Essential criteria

9. Higher Specialist Training in Renal Medicine Experience in training undergraduates and postgraduates

Management/Audit Experience

Essential criteria

10. Able to provide evidence of clinical audit and demonstrate understanding of impact and challenges this brings
11. Ability to demonstrate knowledge and awareness of current and future NHS challenges and strategy.
12. Ability to support team members in business planning via collaboration and discussion.

Desirable criteria

13. Evidence of innovative approaches to healthcare
14. Experience of audit management

Academic Achievements/ Research/Publications

Essential criteria

15. Ability to demonstrate personal experience of clinical research and describe and discuss findings and impact.
16. Experience of research, presentations to learned societies on topics related to surgery
17. Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical/surgical problems
18. Demonstrate number of first name publications in indexed journals, over a variety of subjects relevant to this post.

19. PhD/ MD Thesis

Personal Skills

Essential criteria

20. Excellent presentational and verbal skills.
21. Ability to motivate and develop medical trainees.
22. Ability to manage time well to deliver objectives of the Trust and Barts Renal Strategy
23. Awareness of best practice through evidence based medicine, and personal drive to enact the change with the team

24. IT skills and computer literacy
