Although it helps, it is not essential to be qualified to apply for this role. You may be looking for a career change and want the opportunity to make a real difference to the education and wellbeing of our children. You may have different lived or work experience, gained in the care sector, NHS, or worked/volunteered with children in non-school environments. You may be leaving college with a level 2 in education and early years, or a childcare certificate, and are looking for an opportunity to share your skills.
The most important thing is having the right mindset for the role. You need to be proactive, energetic, and committed to engaging pupils and developing their desire to learn. You will help inspire them to be confident and independent. You need to be calm, patient, sensitive, and able to comfort children when upset. We are looking for people who demonstrate a positive attitude and enthusiasm for creating a supportive learning environment.
The Role
An ELAN LSA - SEND 1:1 is positive, a team player, motivational, flexible, creative, and innovative with a supportive nature. You should be confident, calm, consistent, resourceful, and experienced in supporting pupils with SEND in a classroom environment.
You will support high-quality teaching and learning across all subjects, delivering the TEACCH approach. You will help create learning environments where pupils can expand their knowledge, working 1:1 and in small groups. You will work with the school community to uphold our trust and school values.
Previous experience working with children with SEMH and complex needs, implementing positive behaviour management, delivering targeted interventions, and working with outside families and agencies would be advantageous.
