The Project Architect is responsible for the planning, design development, and execution of new construction and renovation projects from inception through completion. This role also leads master planning and lifecycle management activities across the enterprise, acting as the architectural design process owner for facilities planning initiatives. The Project Architect provides technical leadership to establish the overall direction of architectural design, campus planning, landscape architecture, capital planning, and related facilities initiatives. The role involves coordination with hospital departments, city, county, and state agencies, consulting architects and engineers, and construction firms. Additionally, the Project Architect leads project teams and mentors facilities planning team members.
Department team members are authorized to have limited access to secured medication rooms to perform duties as defined in this job description. Responsibilities:
1. Conducts project planning and analysis, including site inspection, coordination with departmental officials, developing requirements, and determining feasible methods to accomplish project goals. Reviews and interprets building codes and regulatory requirements. Coordinates with architects, engineers, and stakeholders in developing space programs, plans, and specifications.
2. Acts as the primary representative for assigned projects, managing substitutions and changes to approved plans and specifications. Coordinates with key stakeholders including department leadership, clinical teams, infection prevention, public safety, IT, and construction management to plan work and resolve issues.
3. Prepares or oversees the preparation of plans and specifications for contractor or in-house work, ensuring design features are incorporated and thoroughly reviewed. Facilitates stakeholder review and approval of drawings before finalization.
4. Develops detailed project budgets based on designs and past experience, estimates materials and resources, and collaborates with estimators to ensure realistic budgeting.
5. Monitors projects during construction, working with inspectors to ensure adherence to plans and specifications. Conducts final inspections, documents deficiencies, and ensures corrections are made. Records all modifications in the master archiving system.
6. Organizes regular meetings with contractors, architects, engineers, and inspectors to establish schedules and resolve issues, ensuring documentation and adherence to schedules and budgets.
7. Identifies needs for changes during construction, obtains cost estimates, and evaluates the worthiness of proposed modifications.
8. Prepares construction status reports for senior management and maintains comprehensive project files, including drawings, specifications, and correspondence. Ensures updates of as-built drawings and standards manuals.
9. Follows up on building deficiencies post-construction to ensure corrections, and monitors projects during the warranty period.
10. Performs campus planning, space utilization, and special studies involving technical investigations and analyses, recommending solutions to planning, engineering, and administrative challenges.
11. Performs other duties within the scope of the role as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
* Bachelor's Degree in Architecture, Engineering, Design, or related field
* Architect Licensure is required
* Minimum of 5 years relevant experience in architecture or space planning
Preferred Qualifications:
* Master's Degree in Architecture, Interior Design, or related field
* Additional healthcare certifications
* Experience in healthcare design and construction
