Overview
We are looking for an urban drainage advisor with sewer hydraulic modelling experience. This is an exciting and busy time for the wastewater sector. You will join an experienced and supportive national team that designs and implements new regulatory approaches, enabling strategic change in the way we regulate and work with sewerage companies to deliver storm‑and‑emergency overflow improvement programmes.
Key Responsibilities
* Apply experience of building and using sewer hydraulic and modelling tools to inform guidance to the sector and assure programme delivery.
* Lead the development of audit processes for water‑quality investigations under the Storm Overflows Assessment Framework and Environment Act.
* Co‑develop training courses on Urban Pollution Management (UPM), respond to technical queries and coach staff on sewerage and water‑quality investigations.
* Operate as part of a dispersed team, maintaining effective communication with internal and external customers across the country.
* Respond to incidents or provide business‑continuity support during an incident (optionally); additional payment and full training available if you choose an incident role.
Experience & Skills Required
* Relevant degree such as civil engineering, geography or environmental science (alternatives considered).
* Demonstrated continued professional experience in sewer modelling and/or river quality impact modelling for UPM studies, including model audits.
* Knowledge of environmental planning and regulation of Water and Sewerage Companies.
* Excellent organisational skills and ability to coach others, with experience embedding new approaches into business processes.
* Experience of developing new processes through collaborative relationships across dispersed teams.
Location & Travel
Office base location is flexible. You should be prepared to travel occasionally or stay overnight to attend meetings.

Applications are “blind‑assessed” using competency questions. Interviews will be held via MS Teams during the week commencing 12th January 2026. Consent to a reserve list may be given for 6 months.

Interpret and forecast environmental data, including large‑scale trends and localised forecasts (e.g., pollution, flooding). Provide examples of sewer or river quality impact models, audit/QA processes, problems faced and resolutions.
Competence 2: Strategic Environment Planning
Develop, deliver and implement strategic plans for sustainable use, protection and improvement of the environment. Summarise technical knowledge and experience from the wastewater sector and describe how you have applied environmental planning to positively impact water quality.
Competence 3: Coaches Others
Use direct instruction, coaching and feedback to develop others. Provide an example of enhancing the capability of a group within your organisation or externally, and how success was measured.
Competence 4: Shapes Organisational Approach & Delivery
Shape organisational approach and delivery by informing government policy and translating it into cost‑effective operational activities. Describe a process you have developed and embedded at an organisational level.
