SHEA Construction Advisor
Exeter
Permanent, full-time
Hybrid with travel
Competitive salary + Company car or car allowance + Company benefits

The SHEA Construction Advisor is responsible for providing expert guidance, assurance, and support across construction, civils and site operational works to ensure compliance with UK health and safety legislation, best practice, and company policies. This is a remote position with frequent travel to company sites and depots.

This role is key to promoting a strong safety culture, reducing risk, and ensuring safe planning and execution of construction and operational works across the company’s activities.
More about the role:

* Support the Head of SHEA with continuous improvement and compliance across the organisation
* Provide competent H&S advice to project teams, supervisors and subcontractors,
* Assist Managers with creating and or reviewing Construction Phase Plans, Method Statements, Risk Assessments, Environmental Management Plans etc.
* Attend pre-construction and construction meetings when requested
* Support the development of policies and procedures
* Conduct routine site inspections, audits and behavioural safety tours
* Monitor high-risk activities such as temporary works, lifting operations, working at height, confined space and excavations
* Carry out random and for cause D&A testing
* Support competency assessments and highlight training needs
* Support the Head of SHEA with internal and external audits for maintenance of ISO standards and RISQS compliance
* Carry out incident investigations when requested to determine root cause and preventative action
* Assist the SHEA team with facilitating closing out of corrective actions from incidents, inspections and audits in a timely manner
* Carry out supplier and subcontractor vetting when requested
* Carry out company inductions, road shows and stand downs when requested
* Develop training and meeting presentations, toolbox talks and SHEA alerts
* Chair safety calls and safety meetings as instructed by the Head of SHEA
* Assist the department with preparing for and chairing quarterly Safety Reps meetings
* Create documents, forms and templates on ACTIV and Reflow or alternative electronic software platforms where required
* Lead with Safety Culture and support the Head of SHEA with ongoing Culture initiatives

Qualifications


About you:
Essential

* Strong knowledge of UK regulations with particular expertise with CDM 2015 regulations
* Ability to work autonomously and within a team environment
* Manage multiple tasks in an organised manner
* Must be able to work to tight deadlines
* Strong leadership and role model whilst actively promoting - Think Safe, Work Safe, Home Safe culture

Experience / Knowledge:

* NEBOSH Construction Certificate or equivalent
* CSCS and Water Hygiene cards
* First Aid at Work
* Asbestos Awareness
* COSHH
* Manual Handling
* Working at Height

Good to have:

* Member of IOSH, APS or similar body
* NEBOSH Environmental or IEMA training
* Streetworks Ops or Supervisor training
* CITB Temporary Works Supervisor
* Experience with implementing Integrated Management Systems
* Internal or lead auditor in 9001, 14001, 45001
* Behavioural Safety qualification
* Mental Health First Aider
