Job Description:
This role is categorized as hybrid, requiring reporting to Concord, NC three times per week, with flexibility for weekends supporting live race events.
The GM Motorsports Program seeks a race strategy analyst to develop race strategy tools and support teams in IndyCar, NASCAR, WEC, and IMSA series. Initial work involves merging existing AI/ML tools and adapting them to new series, with opportunities to develop cutting-edge race strategy software.
Responsibilities include developing and refining data science models, creating simulation platforms, visualizing insights, validating tools, and collaborating across multiple teams to enhance race strategies.
What You’ll Do
* Apply data science techniques to develop race strategy tools for pre-race planning and live decision-making.
* Refine AI/ML models for Sportscars, including Python codebases.
* Develop simulation platforms for Monte Carlo analyses.
* Create tire degradation models and visualization tools.
* Verify and improve race strategy tools through testing and collaboration.
* Support in-event analysis for IMSA and WEC races.
* Collaborate with technical teams across GM and sponsored motorsports teams.
Qualifications
* Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Data Science, or related field.
* 7+ years in top-level motorsports series, with 2+ years developing strategy tools.
* Expertise in motorsport race strategy, models, and analysis during live events.
* Proficiency in Python, MATLAB, or similar languages.
* Knowledge of AI/ML techniques and industry applications.
* Strong organizational, interpersonal, and mentorship skills.
* Ability to travel within the US (~10%).
Preferred Qualifications
* Experience in tire modeling and simulation workflows.
* Knowledge of machine learning libraries and big data tools.
