We are working with a dynamic organisation seeking a commercially astute Finance Manager to lead its financial operations. This hands-on role is perfect for a qualified finance professional with strong experience in an SME environment or a larger corporate, ideally within consultancy or professional services.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Management & Reporting
* Ownership of monthly management accounts, including variance analysis and commentary
* Preparation of cash flow forecasts and key financial reporting
* Lead on budgeting cycles and three-year strategic forecasting
* Provide financial analysis to support senior decision-making and long-term planning
* Assist with project profitability reviews and client pricing evaluations
Operational Finance & Compliance
* Oversee core finance functions including AP, AR, payroll, and banking
* Maintain general ledger accuracy and oversee journal postings
* Manage VAT returns, HMRC filings, and broader tax compliance (with external accountant support)
* Coordinate with external auditors and accountants for year-end processes
* Optimise banking relationships and cash flow management
* Strengthen internal financial controls and improve financial procedures
Commercial Support & Business Partnering
* Collaborate closely with leadership, client services, and commercial teams to drive financial insight
* Advise on financial elements of contracts and client engagements
* Contribute to the development of commercial models and pricing structures
* Support subcontractor engagements, including compliance considerations
* Mentor and develop junior finance team members
Key Skills & Experience:
Essential
* Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, or CIMA)
* 5+ years of relevant finance experience, ideally in a professional or consulting services context
* Strong working knowledge of UK accounting standards, VAT, and tax regulations
* Proficient in cloud-based finance tools (Xero preferred; QuickBooks also considered)
* Advanced Excel user with strong analytical and stakeholder communication skills
* Able to manage competing priorities in a deadline-driven, project-oriented environment
Desirable
* Familiarity with subcontractor management and IR35 requirements
* Understanding of project-based or time-tracking billing systems
* Experience with public sector consultancy or contract frameworks
Qualifications
* ACA, ACCA, or CIMA qualified
