Are you a caring and compassionate Healthcare Assistant who wants to make a meaningful difference during one of life's most sensitive times? Would you like to join an organisation where you can grow, feel supported and truly make an impact every day?

We're looking for experienced Senior Healthcare Assistants to join our incredible team at Saint Michaels Hospice in Harrogate.

About us

Our family of services - Herriot Hospice Homecare, Just 'B' and Saint Michael's Hospice - provide vital support to people when they need it most. Our vision is of a community where everyone gets the care they need, want and deserve, and you can help make that a reality.

We are an independent charity powered by local communities. Every day, we help to improve quality of life for people living with terminal illness, bereavement and mental health concerns, because our belief is that no one should suffer. Our incredible teams work together to make this happen.

Your role as a Senior Healthcare Assistant

At the heart of our patient-centred approach is a simple belief that every moment counts. Our mission is to deliver exceptional, personalised care that brings comfort, dignity, and support to our patients and those who love them. The Senior Healthcare Assistant will guide and inspire a team, contribute to service development, and provide high-quality, person-centred care at one of life's most important stages.

In this role, you will:

* Provide support with daily operations including rota building.

* Supervise and mentor nursing and HCA staff, supporting teamwork and professional development.

* Deliver training and promote competency-based practice within the team.

* Implement best practice in specialist palliative care.

* Lead holistic assessments and individualised care planning with patients, families, and the multidisciplinary teams.

* Recognise changes in patient symptoms to inform our MDT colleagues where necessary.

About you:

We are seeking an experienced Healthcare Assistant who is not only clinically skilled but also deeply compassionate, someone who sees hospice care as a vocation, not just a role.

We're looking for:

* Significant experience in palliative care, oncology, or an acute clinical setting.
* Demonstrated leadership ability and experience managing clinical teams.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
* Confidence and emotional resilience in handling complex or sensitive situations.
* Commitment to ongoing professional development and reflective practice.
* Experience delivering individualised care in dynamic, needs-led environments such as ward or complex community settings.
* Ideally, you'll have a background in managing ward logistics or leading within a specialist care area.
* Evidence of formal training or continued professional development in care, particularly palliative care.
* A passion for palliative, hospice, or specialist ward care
* Strong communication skills and a calm, empathetic approach to complex care situations
* The ability to work independently and as part of a close-knit team

At our hospice, we understand that this work is deeply personal. That's why we place just as much care into supporting our staff as we do our patients – creating a workplace where people feel valued, listened to and able to grow. If you're ready to bring comfort, dignity, and peace to those at the end of life, we would love to hear from you.

How we look after you

We put people first in all that we do, which includes our own team

* Wellbeing and resilience support with a dedicated team by your side

* A supportive and caring environment

* Opportunities to grow, develop and progress, with a culture of lifelong learning
