Role Overview
As an Assistant Investigator at HS2 you will manage an allocated caseload of both reactive and proactive non‑complex alerts and investigations, conduct fraud risk assessments within HS2 and the supply chain, and present fraud awareness sessions.
Key Responsibilities
* Work a caseload of alerts from various proactive fraud identification systems to determine the causation of the alert, minimise further loss and seek recovery where possible.
* Update and enter all investigative actions and recommendations in third‑party systems and the case‑management tracker.
* Manage an allocated caseload of investigations relating to alleged unethical behaviour in a timely manner.
* Support the Counter Fraud and Business Ethics Team on complex cases, undertake fraud risk assessments and deliver fraud risk awareness sessions.
* Collaborate with investigative, compliance, audit and law‑enforcement bodies internally and externally.
* Collate and produce reports highlighting the CBFE team’s performance for internal and external use.
* Promote and embed Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) in all work and comply with organisational EDI initiatives, policies and procedures.
Required Skills
* Effective communication at different levels, providing concise and professional advice.
* Experience conducting compliance, ethics or fraud investigations.
* Ability to interpret and evaluate information gathered during investigations and provide recommendations.
* Stakeholder management, conflict resolution, conduct difficult discussions and interviews, and close matters promptly.
* Analytical skills and ability to manage multiple investigations simultaneously in a changing environment.
* Strong reporting abilities, producing succinct investigation reports with minimal amendment.
Knowledge & Qualifications
* Professional accreditation in investigations discipline (e.g. Certified Fraud Examiner, Counter Fraud Investigator Apprenticeship, Professional Investigations Programme – Level 2, Accredited Counter Fraud Specialist – Expert, Advanced Professional Certificate in Investigative Practice, Professionalism in Security Management).
* Post‑qualification experience in an investigation environment.
* Experience conducting interviews of suspects and witnesses, taking statements.
* Experience in investigation report writing from internal HR or criminal investigations, identifying lessons learned and recommendations.
Salary and Benefits
Base salary: £32,050 pa to £37,700 pa depending on skills and experience. In addition, a flexible benefits fund of 15% is paid on top of the base salary and is fully pensionable. A range of competitive benefits is available (see the Benefits section on the website).
