You will be responsible for:
* Design and implement full stack battery intelligence platforms, including: Cloud infrastructure (AWS/Azure/GCP), Backend systems and APIs for battery telemetry ingestion and analytics, Frontend dashboards for real-time monitoring, diagnostics, and fleet intelligence, Database architecture supporting large-scale time-series battery data.
* Develop scalable, secure, and production-grade software systems supporting industrial deployments.
* Integrate embedded BMS firmware, edge computing devices, and cloud analytics pipelines.
* Implement AI-driven diagnostics and battery state estimation algorithms.
* Collaborate closely with industry stakeholders to co-develop next-generation battery control solutions, supporting commercialisation and industrial integration.
* Provide expert-level technical and research support to the Architectural Engineering Group.
* Contribute to ongoing research projects, funding applications, and spinout activities, including technical planning and delivery.
* Produce high-impact research outputs (journal publications, conference papers, and technical reports).
* Present research results at conferences, consortium meetings, and industrial forums.
* Engage in knowledge exchange, contributing to grant writing and collaborative partnerships both internally and externally.
* Undertake a small amount of teaching and assessment and supervision of projects / dissertations for UG students.
* Coach and mentor PG/ PhD students and where appropriate gain experience of PhD supervision.
You should have:
* PhD in computer science, software engineering, Embedded Systems, Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning, data science, or closely related disciplines or significant practical/industrial experience.
* Significant postdoctoral or equivalent industrial experience demonstrating research and technical excellence.
* Strong expertise in: Backend development (Python, Node.js, Go, or similar), Frontend frameworks (React, Vue, or equivalent), Cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, or GCP), Database systems (SQL, NoSQL, time-series databases), and API architecture and distributed systems.
* Experience integrating hardware, IoT devices, or embedded systems with cloud platforms.
* Strong portfolio of publications in peer-reviewed journals or equivalent industry innovation output.
* Demonstrated ability to lead projects, teams, or major technical initiatives.
* Proven ability to secure or contribute to research funding proposals.
* Ability to lead technical projects and contribute to multidisciplinary teams.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly.
* Ability to work independently with a high level of initiative and responsibility.
Desirable Skills and Attributes:
* Experience in start-up, spinout, or commercial R&D environments.
* Prior involvement in writing or supporting successful funding bids.
* Familiarity with safety-critical systems, energy storage technologies, or automotive standards.
* Capability to support hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) and software-in-the-loop (SIL) testing frameworks.
* High level of personal initiative, creativity, and technical problem-solving.
