Electricity Distribution - Network Technician
Join us at National Grid to support the electricity distribution network covering the Chesterfield and Mansfield region from our Alfreton depot.
This role reports to the Team Manager and involves the construction, maintenance, and repair of underground and overhead networks up to 66kV. You will programme and monitor immediate work colleagues, switch up to 66kV, issue safety documentation, and perform other tasks appropriate to the Technician role.
Qualifications required:
* Grade A*-C/4-9 GCSE in English and Maths or a Functional Skills Level 2 qualification in both subjects
* City & Guilds 2339 Level 2 or equivalent Level 2 qualification in Electrical Engineering
Evidence of these qualifications will be required prior to appointment. The successful candidate may initially be appointed at a lower salary until all relevant courses and training are complete.
Responsibilities include:
* Network operations, including issuing Limitations of Access and Permit to Work safety documents up to 66kV
* Construction of distribution substations, overhead lines, and associated plant; installation of plant; laying and jointing of cables up to 11kV
* Repair and replacement of faulty and obsolete plant, cables, and overhead lines
* Recording asset routes, details, and positions
* Recording plant details
* Connecting generators
Ideal candidate profile:
You must be able to work independently as part of a small team, make decisions on the spot, communicate effectively, remain flexible, and cope with pressured situations while meeting tight deadlines. You will be required to train as an SAP and be mobile throughout the area to undertake standby duties as part of the formal rota operating in the team. If not already attained, the successful candidate will be required to undertake a Level 3 City & Guilds 2339.
