About the Role

An excellent opportunity has opened for a Business Intelligence Data Engineer to join us based at London Gateway.
Location: Stanford Le Hope
Hours: 37.5 hours per week (Mon-Fri)
Key Responsibilities:
* Design, manage, and optimise SQL-based databases to support business intelligence and analytics.
* Maintain robust data structures and schemas to ensure accurate and consistent tracking of terminal performance metrics.
* Build and support data pipelines that transform operational data into usable formats for reporting and analysis.
* Collaborate with data analysts, IT, and operations teams to understand data needs and deliver reliable access to key datasets.
* Automate ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes to streamline reporting and reduce manual effort.
* Conduct regular database health checks, backups, indexing, and performance tuning to ensure system reliability.
* Troubleshoot data issues, resolve reporting errors, and perform root cause analysis in partnership with the BI team.
* Uphold best practices in data governance, security, and access control across all reporting platforms.
* Maintain technical documentation and version control for database objects, stored procedures, and ETL workflows.
* Support the integration of business data with global dashboards and forecasting tools to enable long-term planning.
Qualifications & Experience:
* Hands-on experience with relational databases (e.g., SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL).
* Strong understanding of data warehousing, modelling, and database design principles.
* Proficient in writing SQL queries, stored procedures, views, and scripts.
* Experience building or maintaining ETL pipelines using tools like SSIS, Power Query, or similar.
* Excellent troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
* High attention to detail and strong documentation habits.
* Familiarity with container terminal operations or logistics data (Desirable)
* Experience with Power BI or similar data visualisation tools (Desirable)
* Knowledge of data governance, GDPR, and data security practices (Desirable)
* Exposure to cloud-based databases (e.g., Azure SQL, AWS RDS) (Desirable)

* Eligibility to work in the UK.
* A full valid UK driving licence or appropriate international licence.
* No unspent criminal convictions.
* Compliance with health and safety requirements, including medical and fitness checks.
