Due to our continued growth, we are recruiting for a Lead Engineer - Fuel Systems to be based at our customer's site in Peterborough.
Our Engineering Research and Development department (ER&D) is a rapidly expanding function within Tata Technologies Limited, working on exciting global projects across Automotive, Aerospace, and Industrial Heavy Machinery sectors.
The Role:
As a Lead Engineer of Fuel Systems, you will establish and manage design control processes, ensuring comprehensive input from all relevant areas, while providing leadership and technical expertise in your domain.
Dimension of Function:
This role involves ownership of at least one module throughout the full product development cycle, including team leadership, technical guidance, and financial planning within our growing ER&D function.
Key Responsibilities:
* Complete development of fuel system components for diesel engines.
* Understand and apply assembly processes.
* Provide technical inputs to project work.
* Design and package fuel system components.
* Lead from a technical perspective to meet specification targets.
* Conduct system-level packaging and feasibility studies.
* Collaborate with project engineers to define required design activities.
* Design and detail components from prototype to production, adhering to standards including GD&T.
* Serve as the point of contact for engineering matters within the design community.
* Identify opportunities to reduce complexity, cost, and weight.
* Ensure all components meet technical specifications, surpass weight targets, and are documented accurately, considering material selection and innovative design.
* Experience with DFA/DFM and first engineering concepts.
* Manage engineering releases, ensuring all specifications, weight, and cost targets are met, with supplier DFM and material finishes defined.
* Coordinate on-site/off-site reviews for build support.
* Prepare RFQs/ESOWs for new components.
* Review with suppliers for feasibility and support.
* Manage ECR/ECN processes for development and running components.
* Coordinate with CAE for fuel system components.
* Support testing phases (DVP/PVP) and homologation.
* Discuss proto build supportability with PD, buyers, and suppliers.
* Update BOMs accordingly.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
* Excellent CREO PTC skills.
* Leadership and motivation in a design role.
* Proven experience in design activities at OEM/Tier-1, delivering on responsibilities.
* Mandatory experience with fuel systems—fuel lines, filters, or tanks.
* Knowledge of system mounting, material selection, NVH targets, CFD, CAE, DVP, DFMEA, RMDV, DFA, DFS.
* Strong understanding of plastic molding processes.
* Track record of delivering designs on time, within weight and cost targets.
* Supplier liaison experience, understanding DFM requirements.
* Experience in industrial heavy machinery (diesel gensets) is preferable.
