We are hiring a Director of Medical Communications. This role is full time, remote-first, permanent, 37.5 hours per week.
The Why
This role exists to lead Word Monster's Med Comms business, evolving beyond our foundations in medical writing and training. The problem it solves is clear: clients are asking for more strategic, intuitive communications that cut through complexity, build trust, and drive engagement. The value it creates is twofold: for clients, it means a partner who can elevate their scientific story. For Word Monster, it means a sustainable growth engine that cements our position as more than a writing agency.
The Context
Word Monster has grown from firm roots supporting healthcare agencies (scientific expertise and publications) and our training academy (capability building for pharma and agency teams). Our vision is now to establish a fully-fledged Med Comms vertical, underpinned by our proprietary communications frameworks. You will be responsible for evolving the offering, building the team, and delivering impact for clients.
Key Responsibilities
This is an evolving role. In year one, the focus will be on translating our roadmap into clear Med Comms services, piloting offerings with anchor clients, and building proof points. In parallel, you will shape the team structure, hire where needed, and establish repeatable processes for delivery and growth. Over time, you'll scale the vertical, broadening services, deepening client relationships, and embedding Med Comms as a sustainable business unit alongside our Training and Agency Support verticals. Your key responsibilities in year one will include securing new business, organic growth within existing clients, delivering scientific strategies for clients, managing and coaching the team to upskill them in strategic thinking, growing and leading the team, and shaping the culture to enable the delivery of scientific excellence to clients.
The Success Outcomes
Success In This Role Means
* For clients: Delivering intuitive, insight-led Med Comms programmes that improve HCP engagement, strengthen launch excellence, and build internal client capability
* For colleagues: Creating clarity, accountability, and growth opportunities within the Med Comms team; ensuring colleagues feel part of a purposeful, high-performing vertical
* For the business: Driving revenue growth and diversification, establishing Med Comms as a pillar of Word Monster's service mix, and building a market reputation for scientific consultancy and strategic delivery
The Leadership Expectations
We expect this leader to set direction with clarity, inspire belief in the vision, and foster a culture where people feel both challenged and supported. They will align the Med Comms team with the broader business, role-modelling Word Monster's life first ethos, and ensuring collaboration across verticals. Externally, they'll be a visible ambassador, representing Word Monster's ambition to be known not just for scientific writing, but also for scientific excellence at speed, delivered intuitively and proven through measurable impact.
