This is a Graduate Programme position and will commence in August 2026.
We are launching our 2026 Graduate Development Programme and are looking for a diverse range of people to join us to complete this 2 year programme. Opportunities are available across our Scottish and Southern Operations and Transmission directorates in various engineering disciplines. SGN will match you to a particular programme based on your skills and preference.
As part of your learning journey we will provide you with the skills, knowledge and behaviours to work as part of our highly skilled engineering teams, safely delivering a gas supply to 5.9 million homes and businesses in the south of England and across Scotland.
The role;
You will be functioning as part of a team, providing support to other engineers and working across a range of projects. You will be involved in a variety of placements throughout the directorate contributing to business critical tasks and projects which can include
* Ensuring the effective operation and maintenance of gas distribution assets
* Analysing network challenges recommending cost effective resolution
* Preparing reports on project progress and outcomes
* Managing and assessing progress and performance of projects, including identifying risks, providing mitigation and ensuring compliance with all internal policies/processes
* Managing gas emergency, mains replacement and new connections activities
* Participating as an effective member of an incident management team
* Ensuring the effective operation and maintenance of gas distribution assets
* Supporting the team in the efficient delivery of planned and reactive maintenance activities
* Overseeing assigned work programmes from initiation through to programme closure
* Ensuring required controls are in place to make sure the team are set to work safely
* Dealing with hazards and risks identified by others, delivering an efficient plan to remedy
You will be supported by our highly skilled engineers and managers, who will provide opportunity for you to develop your competencies in real work situations, supplementing your ongoing learning through your tailored development programme. Over the course of the programme you may be required to attend a number of training venues, which may be a distance away from your home. When you are required to stay away from home, we will arrange travel and accommodation.
Requirements for role:
* Recently graduated in a relevant engineering discipline with 2:1 or higher (actual or predicted as appropriate) honours degree – mechanical, electrical, chemical, energy & environmental, etc.
* You are required to have graduated prior to your first day at SGN
* Self-motivated, with good attention to detail and a proactive work ethic and have excellent numerical and analytical skills to be able to problem solve
* Have excellent report writing skills with the ability to develop papers for internal and external parties
* Interested in developing your career within the gas network industry
* Able to commit to 2 years of training and development
* Have a can-do attitude and a passion for growing a successful career.
