Work Schedule: Minimum 37.5 hours per week; occasional evenings and weekends may be required.
Position Summary
The Staff Accountant is responsible for accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, and supporting the Business Office Manager with fiscal year financial statements and journal entries.
Responsibilities
Accounting
* Prepare and process sponsorship invoices and maintain related accounts receivable records.
* Generate and distribute student account statements and assist with account inquiries.
* Perform monthly accounts receivable reconciliations.
* Complete monthly bank reconciliations for the institution's bank account.
* Support the Business Office Manager with the preparation of formal financial statements and journal entries.
Compliance & Reporting
* Assist the Business Office Manager with annual survey requirements, including NCCCS Survey of Fees, IPEDS, and SACS financial surveys.
* Support monthly reimbursement requests for expenditures.
Other
* Serve as back‑up cashier.
* Approve travel authorizations and reimbursements.
* Assist the Business Office Manager with the College’s Internal Controls Program.
* Serve as the primary check runner.
* Prepare and distribute uncashed check notification letters.
* Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills and Abilities
* Knowledge of fund accounting, accounts receivable, and financial reporting.
* Sound understanding of general ledger structure.
* Familiarity with federal, state, and local reporting requirements.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Ability to multitask and prioritize competing deadlines.
Minimum Qualifications
Associate degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field, required.
Preferred Qualifications
* Bachelor’s degree, preferred.
* Minimum of two years of experience in fund accounting, accounts receivable, and financial reporting, with knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
* Higher education experience, preferred.
