An exciting opportunity has arisen for an NHS England Approved Clinical Coding Trainer to join our East Cheshire NHS Trust Clinical Coding Team.
The Clinical Coding Trainer will plan and deliver structured trainee programmes, refresher training, classification updates and specialty workshops, supporting coders from entry level through to the National Clinical Coding Qualification (ACC) and beyond.
Applicants must be NHS England Approved Clinical Coding Trainers.
We would also consider applicants who have secured a place on NHS England's 2026/2027 Clinical Coding Trainer Programme (CCTP) Assessment Day (June 26).
Main duties of the job
The main job purpose is to work with the Head of Clinical Coding in the development and delivery of the clinical coding training service, to ensure that clinical coders are confident and effective in their roles and facilitate adherence of quality standards and information governance requirements. This will include providing an internal induction training programme, creating and delivering internal workshops, delivering approved National Clinical Coding Standards training and providing mentorship to both senior qualified clinical coders and clinical coders undertaking the national clinical coding qualification.

Qualifications
* Degree or equivalent level qualification or demonstrate equivalent experience in clinical Coding training or health informatics.
* NHS England Approved Clinical Coding Trainer
* Accredited Clinical Coder status (ACC) by passing the National Clinical Coding Qualification (NCCQ)
* Continued professional development, including Clinical Coding Refresher Course and up to date TAP
* Registration with an appropriate health informatics body
* Certificate in Anatomy and Physiology.
* AMSPAR (The Association of Medical Secretaries, Practice Managers, Administrators and Receptionists)
Knowledge & Skills
* Attended Clinical Coding Trainer refresher courses
* Maintained Clinical Coding trainer logbooks and attended biannual Clinical Coding forums
* Participating in Clinical Coding Audits
Experience
* Have experience in delivering both face to face and remote training sessions
* Have experience developing bespoke training packages to meet individual coder requirements
* Have experience in coding a wide range of speciality areas.
* Have proven expertise and specialist knowledge in the application of the rules and conventions of ICD 10 and OPCS-4 and a thorough understanding of the national clinical coding standards for those classifications.
* Understanding of National Tariff Payment System (NTPS) and Healthcare Resource Groups (HRGs)
* Knowledge of the Data Quality Protection Toolkit Standard 3 and Data Protection laws.
* Experience of mentoring clinical coding staff
* Excellent presentation skills.
* Report writing skills.
* Knowledge and practical skills of using EPR (Electronic Patient Record) hospital systems and Clinical encoder
