Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust is pleased toannounce the introduction of this new role aimed at doctors who are passionateabout their practice and their career outside traditional models. Our post will combine education and careerdevelopment with practical patient-facing care.

The post are not recognised UK trainingposts. Nevertheless, MYDoc doctors willhave a named supervisor and be supported in undertaking scheduled educationalopportunities to consolidate and develop alongside their experiential learning,with certificated outcomes or credentialing to support career progressionthrough other routes.

An opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and motivated doctor to join ourdepartment for 12 months.

The Department offers a supportive and encouraging environment in whichto develop technical and professional skills.

Acute General Surgery has recently been reconfigured with all EmergencySurgery based on the Wakefield site. The surgical registrars participate in a1:16 rota on a full shift.

The post holder will work alongside the other specialtyregistrars and will be expected to actively participate in the day to dayrunning of the General Surgical department and will have the opportunity toattend operating theatre sessions and out-patients clinics.

These posts will be part of our cross site seniortrainee rota which is compliant with working time regulations and the 2016 residentdoctors contract, averaging 48 hours per week.


Main duties of the job

* Provision of care withresponsibility for the management of patients with acute and chronic conditionsincluding complex cases.
* Referral of patients to otherspecialities as appropriate
* Involvement in specialty andcross-specialty multi-disciplinary teams and meetings
* Teaching and supervision ofjunior medical staff and other clinicians as appropriate
* Active involvement in auditand clinical governance including service improvement activities

Job responsibilities

Acute General Surgery with all the Emergency Surgery and SDEC based onthe Wakefield site, with Elective General Surgery taking place across the 3sites. The surgical registrars participate in a 1:16 rota on a full shift.

The post holder will work alongside the other specialtyregistrars and will be expected to actively participate in the day to dayrunning of the General Surgical department and will have the opportunity toattend operating theatre sessions and out-patients clinics.


TheService Role

From a clinical perspective these posts willparticipate in the cross site senior trainee rota. The senior trainee rota is compliant with the2016 resident doctor contract averaging 48 hours per week. The illustrative rota pattern is attached tothis job description.

Duties will be based primarily on our PinderfieldsHospital and Dewsbury Hospital sites although all our medical staff areinvolved in delivering care to patients on all our sites.


The main duties of the post will include:

Terms &Conditions and Tenure

Employment will be as a MYDoc Registrar on Trust Terms and Conditions ofService.

Appointment as a MYDoc Registrar is intended to be fora maximum three-year period as part of an individual development programme forthe Doctor, however, the post is initially offered on a fixed term contract for12 months.


Pay Scale

These roles are equivalent to a doctor on specialty training programmesand will be paid on the equivalent pay scale.The salary is currently £65,048 per annum.


Appraisal and Revalidation

This post is not recognised for training and brings with it an obligationto engage with the process of revalidation on an annual basis.

All our Trust appointed doctors are required to engage positively withappraisal and revalidation. The Trusthas procedures that comply with national recommendations. As a Trust employed doctor on a fixed termcontract successfully appointed applicants will need to have a prescribedconnection with Mid Yorkshire NHS Trustvia GMC Connect and will therefore have the Medical Director at the Trust astheir GMC Responsible Officer.


Continuing Professional Development

The Trust requires all its doctors to engage with continuingprofessional development, guided by the relevant professional associations orRoyal Colleges. Time and funding is provided according to departmental andTrust policies, subject to approval through the clinical management structures.There is a programme of mandatory training which all relevant staff mustcomplete as required.


Research

Medical staff areencouraged to develop areas of personal and/or research interest. This can be developed in liaison with theTrusts R&D department and in line with prevailing policies and researchframeworks. The Trust is developing anexpanding and outward-looking research programme.


Educational & Clinical Supervision

The post holder will have a named educationalsupervisor and be expected to hold regular meetings with them during theirtenure to ensure appropriate development during their appointment.


Teaching

The Trust is keen to maintain itsreputation for high quality training and to attract the highest calibre oftrainee and career-grade doctors. Allsenior doctors are involved in training our doctors, students and otherprofessions. There are manyopportunities to develop training and education roles and many have taken oneducational leadership roles within and beyond the Trust.


Audit and Clinical Governance

There is a rolling half-day clinicalgovernance programme and audit meetings are well attended and lively. The Clinical Audit Department assists withsetting and supporting an audit programme for the Service with which allcolleagues are encouraged to engage. Clinical Audit is considered withinobjectives as part of job planning.


Person Specification


Experience

* Experience in acute and elective General Surgery at CT2 or equivalent level for at least 12 months with recent experience in the NHS


GMC Registration

* Full GMC Registration with licence to practise.
* Please state your full GMC number


Qualifications

* Medical Degree from recognised medical school
* Successful completion of post registration training
* MRCS or equivalent
* ATLS certification
* Higher qualification


Personal Attributes

* Flexibility.
* Willingness to provide and learn all aspects of hospitals internal systems and processes and adhere to local policies.
* Willingness to participate in further education and audit.
* Physically able to carry out the duties as specified in the job description and ability to evidence competencies.
* Disclosure + Barring Service (DBS) Clearance.
* Has personal insight into own strengths and weaknesses.
* Ability to contribute to the development of the Trust, the Unit and its services.
* Evidence of multidisciplinary team working
* Specific educational interests and evidence of educational ideas or project work.
