Smile Education is currently recruiting for experienced Teaching Assistants to support a specialist educational setting in the Telford area. This role is ideal for individuals with backgrounds in children’s residential care, alternative provisions, or supporting students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
About the Role: You will work in a structured, supportive environment for up to 60 students, with typical class sizes of around 8. The curriculum includes core academic subjects like English and Maths, alongside vocational pathways, focusing on building confidence, emotional resilience, and academic success.
This setting mainly supports young people in Key Stage 3 and 4 who are at risk of or have been excluded from mainstream education. The goal is to help them reintegrate into mainstream settings or support their transition to long-term learning pathways.
Key Responsibilities:
* Provide targeted support to students with SEMH and behavioural needs
* Confidently de-escalate challenging situations and support self-regulation
* Deliver small group tasks and interventions
* Build positive, trusting relationships with students
* Work independently and adapt flexibly to daily needs
* Support students during lessons and unstructured times, promoting positive interactions
Essential Requirements:
* A relevant Level 2 or higher qualification (education or youth-related)
* Recent experience (within the past 12 months) in a similar role
* Experience supporting students with challenging behaviour and SEMH
* Confidence working independently and proactively
* A commitment to high-quality care and education
* Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply through Smile Education)
