When you work for the University of Lancashire, you’ll be part of a thriving community committed to transforming lives through outstanding education and community prosperity. Your role will be vital in achieving our vision.
The University of Lancashire, formerly known as the University of Central Lancashire, is an international, multi-campus university established in 1828. It is one of the largest UK universities with over 39,000 students and was named Edufuturists 'University of the Year' in 2023 for its innovative approach to learning and societal impact.
We are progressing through our seven-year Strategic Plan 2021-2028, aiming to be a leading UK university with both national and international influence, offering practice-based education across campuses in Preston, Burnley, Blackburn, West Cumbria, and Cyprus.
About the role:
We seek an exceptional qualified solicitor or barrister to join our senior leadership team, driving excellence, fostering innovation, and ensuring governance and legal compliance in a dynamic environment.
This role offers the chance to influence the University's mission and strategic priorities. You will lead legal and governance services, advise the executive team and governing body on legal and regulatory issues, and shape institutional strategy through trusted counsel. You will oversee internal and external legal services, manage complex portfolios, and navigate legal risks effectively.
About you:
You will be a UK-qualified solicitor or barrister with substantial post-qualification experience, including senior legal advisory roles in complex organizations. You should have a proven track record in strategic leadership, contract management, and navigating ambiguity confidently.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential, along with the ability to influence, negotiate, and collaborate with diverse stakeholders. Your legal expertise will be complemented by your ability to lead high-performing teams, manage risks, and support the University's strategic ambitions through effective governance and legal services.
Experience in higher education or the public sector is advantageous but not essential; transferable leadership experience from other sectors is welcomed.
This is an opportunity to make a strategic impact in a globally engaged, societally purposeful, and academically excellent institution. Join a collaborative environment where your legal and leadership skills will shape the future of our University and communities.
