We have a new and exciting opportunity for a Postdoctoral Research Scientist to join the Pandemic Science Institute’s (PSI) growing efforts in computational vaccinology and vaccine trial design. You will analyse immunological data from the ChAdOx1 NipahB vaccine trial, aiming to help identify a set of immune markers which might serve as early correlates of protection against Nipah virus disease. This position is in the team led by Dr James Hay, based at Old Road Campus in Headington.

You will be responsible for conducting detailed analysis of a large immunological dataset, including data from ELISA, PNA, ELISPOT, flow cytometry, B and T cell receptor sequencing, and transcriptomics. You will develop a reproducible informatics and machine learning pipeline to process large volumes of sensitive trial data in collaboration with the study team, and develop new statistical frameworks for evaluating multiple correlates of protection in vaccine trials and real-world evidence studies. Other duties include contributing to the production of scientific publications and submit presentations to international conferences, contributing ideas and expertise for project directions, new projects, and grants and acting as a source of information and advice on best-practice methodologies in machine learning/deep learning.

It is essential that you hold a PhD/DPhil (or close to completion) in a relevant quantitative field (e.g. biostatistics, infectious disease epidemiology, systems immunology, computational biology etc) and have experience using statistical methods and machine learning tools, and in developing reproducible informatics pipelines, and experience analysing large volumes of immunological data from multiple assays is also essential. You will be proficient with the programming language R, or a related programming language such as Python or Julia and you will have experience using version control (GitHub) and high-performance computing clusters.
