Full time starting salary normally £33,002 to £35,608 with potential progression once in post to £39,906

Background
As part of Campus Services, the Business and Operations department offers a wide variety of outlets to staff, students and visitors. The post‑holder will manage a team and provide excellent customer service in any one of those areas/outlets.
Role Summary
As a Food and Beverage Cluster Manager, you will oversee operations across a group of outlets/functions, lead teams in providing excellent customer service, and contribute to financial planning, target setting and delivering key performance indicators.
Main Duties
The key focus for this role is to deliver all operating standards for your area, ensuring operational and standards audits are passed, maintaining sales, cost and profit control, and delivering budget expectations.
Leadership
* Provide leadership for day-to-day operational activity within your areas, maintaining and improving operational efficiency and quality of service.
* Think ahead to review the shape of the service and engage with senior managers to recommend improvement actions.
* Ensure all aspects of service provision are responsive and well managed.
* Contribute to improving the broader service.
Safe Ways of Working
* Ensure operations in your areas are managed safely, ensuring the agreed standard of food and beverage is delivered at all times and meets legal requirements, compliance with alcohol service laws, and following all health and safety provision.
Business Planning
* Deliver business processes, people and resources within the operational area.
* Regularly review operations for efficiency and implement necessary changes.
* Identify actions from customer feedback.
People Management
* Have broad managerial responsibility for teams and ensure managers adhere to policy and procedure.
* Through managers ensure objectives set for staff develop organisational capability.
* Ensure required training is delivered.
* Carry regular job chats and performance reviews.
* Implement HR policies on absence and performance management as required within your team.
Financial Management
* Responsible for sales plans and overall cost control.
* Contribute to development of financial budgets and deliver budgets once developed.
* Analyse monthly stocktakes and determine actions to achieve gross profit percentages.
* Ensure delivery of all event activity on time and within budget.
* Ensure accurate cash handling and system functions.
* Adhere to University financial policies and procedures and use in-house systems.
General
* Deputise for your manager as required.
* Promote equality and diversity, acting as a role model.
Operational Requirements
* Contract is task‑based and may include evenings, weekends, bank holidays; notional 37.5‑hour week.
* Participate in the Duty Manager rota, providing cover 7 days per week, 365 days of the year.
* Undertake work across all University of Birmingham campuses as requested.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications, Experience
* Degree level in hospitality or equivalent managerial experience.
* Literate and numerate; GCSE mathematics grade C or equivalent.
* Current Food Safety level 4 qualification.
* Excellent people‑management skills.
* Full, clean driving licence.
* Current Personal Licence holder for sale of alcohol, or willing to obtain.
* Ability to plan, organise and develop sales and service plans.
* Flexible approach to shift patterns.
* Health & Safety Level 3 qualification and knowledge of HACCP, COSHH, waste disposal, fire procedures.
* Excellent IT skills; Microsoft suite; ability to learn in‑house systems.
* Clear communication skills.
* Team player capable of working under pressure and to deadlines.
