Our client, based in Chipping Sodbury, Bristol, is one of the largest privately owned national Property Services companies in the UK with offices across England and Wales (18 locations, 32 Business Units). We are looking for a Trade/Construction Development Specialist.
Ideal candidate profile: someone from a construction or trades environment (contractor, council, or housing association) involved in training and developing construction/trade skills. This is a hands-on role focused on developing people on the job rather than strategic planning.
You may have worked in construction/property services or trades in Learning & Development (L&D) or Organisational Development, with knowledge of the CITB (Construction Industry Training Board) preferred.
The salary is £48,668, with a car allowance of £7,250 (£55,918 total) plus private health, life, and a pension up to 7%, and a profit share (14% last year). You will be living within commuting distance of Head Office in Chipping Sodbury.
Responsibilities
* Design and develop blended learning programmes and solutions that improve trade and operational skills; enhance delivery, consistency, compliance, and drive operational excellence across the company.
* Consult with the business to develop the skills and capabilities of operational teams; ensure training aligns with the organisation's strategic goals.
* Build robust learning pathways and foster a high-performance culture; identify and manage external training partners for qualifications and skill development to upskill trades.
* Source and manage funding solutions with the CITB and other industry partners.
* Design and roll out robust operative/trade development training programmes for key skill areas, including on-the-job training, documentation, buddy systems, and champions.
* Collaborate with L&D Business Partners and the Programme Team to schedule delivery priorities and implement solutions to ensure progression opportunities and capability building.
* Develop and deliver training on key operational, legal, and safety initiatives; leverage external funding opportunities and partnerships.
* Design induction and onboarding processes; ensure effective delivery for new starters and promotions and automate processes to increase efficiency.
* Content curation & development; work with subject matter experts to expand digital learning with interactive modules.
* Regularly update the skills matrix and deliver training initiatives to improve productivity for operatives and management teams.
* Evaluate and enhance toolbox talks and safety communications; support broader OD projects as required.
Qualifications & Skills
* Proven experience in designing and delivering operational training within a trade, construction, or maintenance environment.
* Knowledge of compliance, safeguarding, and risk management in operational settings.
* Experience developing and implementing trade-specific learning programmes and professional development pathways.
* IT literacy with MS Office; familiarity with learning design tools (e.g., Canva, Articulate) and AI tools; understanding of LMS is a plus.
* Relevant qualifications in L&D, training, or related discipline; assessor or trainer qualifications (e.g., AET, CTTLS) desirable.
* Strong communication, stakeholder engagement, facilitation, and collaborative skills.
