GEDON Executive is seeking an ambitious Graduate Quantity Surveyor to join a prominent Main Contractor or Specialist Consultancy in Birmingham, UK. This role offers an excellent entry point into the construction industry with a competitive starting salary of £30,000. We are specifically looking for candidates with foundational practical experience and a keen interest in the technical elements of building, particularly M&E (Mechanical & Electrical) systems.
This position is ideal for a recent graduate eager to build a career in commercial management within the UK market.
Key Responsibilities
* Commercial Support: Assist Senior Quantity Surveyors with all aspects of project financial management, including preparing cost reports, tracking expenditure, and managing commercial documentation.
* Measurement & Take-Off: Conduct accurate quantity take-offs from design drawings and specifications to support the procurement and estimating teams.
* Financial Administration: Help compile monthly valuations and payment applications, process subcontractor payment certificates, and assist in preparing cash flow forecasts.
* Procurement: Support the procurement cycle by assisting in issuing tender enquiries, analysing subcontractor quotes, and drafting sub-contract orders.
* M&E Focus: Gain exposure to and actively assist in the commercial management of complex M&E packages, helping to reconcile M&E costs and variations.
* Site Liaison: Attend site meetings and conduct site visits to monitor progress, verify work completed, and gather necessary commercial data.
What You'll Bring
* Qualifications: A relevant degree (BSc) in Quantity Surveying, Construction Economics, or a related construction discipline.
* Experience: Ideally possess one year of industry experience gained through a formal placement year or relevant internship.
* M&E Interest: A demonstrable interest in Mechanical and Electrical services (MEP/Building Services) is a strong advantage.
* Working Rights: Must possess full, unrestricted rights to work in the UK.
* Skills: Strong analytical and numerical skills, proficiency in Microsoft Excel, and a willingness to learn quickly.
