This is a pivotal role within the Operations team, responsible for providing a confidential and comprehensive patient-centred service regarding patient flow, supporting the delivery of Key Performance Targets.
Role Responsibilities
1. Work with all adult inpatient services to support identification, placement of patients appropriately and timely, following agreed protocols and procedures.
2. Operate with minimal supervision, coordinating activities with team members to ensure an efficient service.
3. Work independently during periods, contributing positively to the organisation of work and maximising bed management services, maintaining confidentiality at all times.
4. Focus on patient flow through the emergency pathway.
5. Understand Emergency Department (ED) Clinical Quality Indicators and support teams to meet targets such as the 4-hour and 12-hour benchmarks.
6. Proactively support bed allocation, considering patient safety at all times.
7. Record daily data related to patient flow and performance for internal and external reporting.
8. Convey information accurately, respond effectively to changing priorities, and develop systems to improve effectiveness.
9. Inform key personnel of pressures within ED/MAU/SAU/MINORS and medical review requirements.
10. Escalate delays in patient journeys across the organisation.
11. Assist in organising urgent admissions and liaise professionally with involved parties.
12. Support patient movement around the organisation to ensure quality care and performance standards.
13. Coordinate workload of the Transfer Team to meet national targets.
14. Maintain real-time bed status information to optimise patient experience.
15. Communicate effectively during handovers and with external agencies.
16. Act as Medical Bed Capacity Manager during designated hours.
17. Utilise internal and external databases efficiently for accurate reporting.
18. Demonstrate negotiating, influencing, and problem-solving skills.
19. Work collaboratively across all organisational groups.
