Project: Building a Browser-Based Digital Orchestra
About us:
ElCode operates as a flexible, project-based network while also developing in-house digital products with long-term growth potential.
We are currently building a browser-based digital orchestra that synchronises live microphone input with real-time MIDI generation and an animated visual system. This is as part of a project to promote a song, but also an experimentation of interactive media.
Project Overview:
When a user sings
• Their voice remains live
• Pitch, rhythm and amplitude are analysed
• That data generates MIDI in real time
• A digital orchestra responds dynamically
• Each instrument follows defined musical rules
• Visual avatars animate based on instrument activity
We are looking for an audio engineer to lead the musical and MIDI logic of this system.
What You Would Work On
• Designing pitch detection to MIDI mapping logic
• Creating orchestration rules for instruments
• Defining harmony behaviour
• Designing dynamic response systems
• Structuring tempo and synchronization
• Helping shape the sound identity of the orchestra
• Potentially co-producing the musical output
You will collaborate with a developer handling front-end and system architecture, but you will own the musical intelligence of the system.
Ideal Background
• Strong understanding of harmony and orchestration
• Experience with MIDI systems
• Experience with DAWs and sound design
• Understanding of real-time audio constraints
• Bonus if familiar with Web Audio, Max/MSP, Pure Data, SuperCollider or similar environments
This role sits between music production and creative technology.
Structure
The team consists of software developer, musical artist, visual designer.
No upfront compensation, but direct revenue participation from the project itself.
Project-based initially, with potential for long-term involvement as the product evolves or on more projects in our growing creative ecosystem.
