We are seeking a dynamic and values-driven Sustainable Economy Manager to shape the future of our districts economy, driving prosperity and resilience while protecting the environment and enhancing community wellbeing.

As Sustainable Economy Manager, you will provide strategic vision, purpose, and strong operational leadership for the Councils aspirations for economic resilience and prosperity, ensuring that our growth is both inclusive and sustainable. You will lead delivery across five key priorities: Circular economy and community wealth building
Business support
Workforce skills
Natural capital preservation
Sustainable towns
You will take strategic oversight of the Councils Sustainable Economy Strategy and champion a regenerative, people-centred approach, one that values equity, sustainability, and shared prosperity. Working collaboratively with local partners, businesses and communities, you will drive regeneration in our market towns, promote sustainable visitor economies, and deliver externally funded programmes that achieve measurable social and economic wellbeing outcomes.

You will act as the Councils lead officer for the Forest Economic Partnership (FEP), working collaboratively to translate strategic ambitions into tangible outcomes for the districts businesses, workforce, and communities.
Some of your responsibilities: Shape and deliver a regenerative, inclusive local economy that centres wellbeing, equity, and environmental sustainability.
Lead, inspire and empower your team to deliver against clear objectives, budgets and measures of success.
Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration and continuous improvement across your service area.
Build and maintain strong partnerships with internal teams, businesses, anchor institutions and community stakeholders.
Oversee the Councils partnership with Dean Wye Tourism, extending the reach, spread and impact of sustainable tourism.
Champion FEP as the districts primary business and skills forum, ensuring local voices help shape economic policy and delivery.

You will need Degree-level education (or equivalent experience) in a relevant field
At least five years experience in economic development, community planning, climate policy or a related area
Strong understanding of sustainability, regeneration and community wealth building
Proven ability to lead change, manage complexity, and resolve issues through collaboration and negotiation
Experience in budget management and securing external funding
A track record of delivering community-led initiatives that achieve measurable wellbeing and economic outcomes
Special Conditions You will be expected to work reasonable additional hours in line with the needs of the service.
There may be a requirement to work at other locations to meet the needs of the business.
Full UK Driving Licence and access to a vehicle for work purposes.
