Job overview
The 0–19 service for the London Borough of Harrow offers Health Visiting and School Nursing to children, young people and families. As a Health Visitor / Specialist Community Public Health Nurse, you will work within the 0–19 team, delivering proactive, evidence‑based, and needs‑led services with the aim of achieving equity of health outcomes for the local population.
Main duties of the job
You will contribute to the identification and assessment of child and family health needs and to the delivery of universal core services, targeted interventions, and public health interventions to children and their families within a defined locality. The Health Visiting Service works closely with local partners, particularly GPs, Children’s Centres and the community and voluntary sector.
As part of a multidisciplinary team, you will support the success of the team by being an effective role model and supervising community nursery nurses, community staff nurses, health care assistants and students, ensuring they adhere to the high standards expected by patients.
Harrow health visiting team also offers the Maternal Early Childhood Sustained Home‑visiting (MECSH) programme – a high‑quality, evidence‑based, nurse‑led structured intervention for families needing additional support.

Skills and Knowledge
* Communicate with the multidisciplinary team, present cases, take notes of actions, update others and use handover effectively, both face‑to‑face and by telephone; write letters and reports.
* Maintain accurate, timely, concise and legible clinical records, both electronic and handwritten, in accordance with CNWL policies.
* Speak to people about sensitive issues in a supportive manner, while challenging others assertively when necessary.
* Use Microsoft Word and Excel for letter and report writing.
* Act as a professional, registered nurse adhering to the NMC Code of Conduct.
* Work well with others, communicating effectively, being kind and considerate, reliable and enthusiastic.
* Manage others and contribute to team management.
* Possess expertise in specific skills and evidence of their development and application.
* Hold supervision, line management and appraisal training.
* Have HR skills training such as recruitment and absence management.
Qualifications
* Current UK NMC Registered Nurse or Midwife.
* UK Registered Specialist Practitioner Public Health Nurse (Health Visitor).
* Evidence of relevant Continuous Professional Development.
* Numeracy skills for safe medication administration.
* Degree or Master in a related subject.
* Qualification in Nurse Prescribing.
Previous Experience
* Open to newly qualified health visitors.
* Experience working with complex families.
* Experience with multidisciplinary integrated team working.
* Ability to work flexibly and respond to changing demands, both individually and within a team.
* Ability to work without direct supervision and proactively seek support when required.
* Knowledge of Infection Control legislation and maintenance of standards.
