About the role
gap technical is proud to be representing this global manufacturing business in their search for a Controls Technician to work at their facility near Runcorn.
Performance Objectives
As a Controls Technician you will develop and troubleshoot a variety of controls and automation systems across our manufacturing lines. You will support the Controls and Automation team, leveraging experience in fault‑finding and diagnostics across a range of control equipment to implement permanent countermeasures and deliver improvement projects that enhance safety, quality, productivity and efficiency.
* Organise automation, electrical, and PLC design projects; identify short‑term and long‑range issues; prepare timetables, cost estimates, and detailed documentation.
* Develop and implement projects to improve manufacturing availability, product quality, employee safety and process efficiency.
* Develop knowledge of manufacturing processes and operating sequences; cascade this knowledge with maintenance teams.
* Develop knowledge and application of automation skills and techniques to drive improvement with maintenance teams.
* Implement plant/process development opportunities that improve safety, quality, cost and delivery.
* Coach and develop maintenance engineering team members’ knowledge of machine control and automation systems.
Person Specification
* Time served Electrical Engineer with at least 3 years post‑qualification experience in an FMCG environment.
* Minimum HNC in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
* Ability to fault‑find and implement program modifications on PLCs, HMIs and robotics.
* Knowledge of parameterisation and commissioning of servo drives and inverters.
* Experience of fault‑finding on industrial communication networks.
* Experience of designing and modifying control circuits and program logic.
* Ability to deliver change‑management activities.
