Job Description
We are seeking a skilled engineer to join our Dynamic Positioning (DP) systems engineering team in Rugby. You will be responsible for software design, implementation, and testing of Marine Automation and DP systems for offshore and naval marine applications.
DP systems are computer-controlled autopilot systems for vessels, maintaining set course or position by counteracting forces like wind and waves. For more about GE Dynamic Positioning systems, watch this video: GE introduces All Speed DP mode for wind farms.
In This Role You Will Focus On
* Executing controls software engineering activities for automation and DP systems from order receipt to customer handover.
* Planning and executing engineering activities to meet delivery, cost, and quality targets, including testing and documentation.
* Interfacing with stakeholders such as customers, classification societies, suppliers, and internal teams.
* Designing HMI, PLC architecture, networks, and communication interfaces using standard hardware and software.
* Writing PLC code in IEC 61131-3 languages (e.g., Ladder, FBD, ST).
* Developing and testing automation process mimics with HMI SCADA packages.
* Collaborating with the Drawing Office on equipment drawings, wiring diagrams, and interface schedules.
Candidate Requirements
* A degree in Electrical, Electronics, or Industrial Control Systems Engineering, or relevant experience.
* Proficiency in PLC programming (IEC61131 languages) and HMI/SCADA systems.
* Experience with control & instrumentation, mechanical & electrical packaging for automation.
* Knowledge of industrial communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, OPC-UA, Profibus, Profinet).
Preferred Qualifications
* Experience with Dynamic Positioning systems.
* Chartered Engineer status or working towards it.
* Knowledge of Operational Technology (OT) cybersecurity.
* Basic understanding of IEC 61508 Functional Safety.
* Willingness to travel for commissioning activities domestically and internationally.
