Position: HGV Class 2 Drainage Engineer
Location: Crossness Sewage Treatment Works, South London Region (Abbey Wood, Greater London)
Job Type: Permanent, full‑time
Hours: 4 days on / 4 days off, 40.25 hrs average a week (work both early and late shifts)
Salary: OTE £50,000 per annum (basic pay, overtime, on‑call allowance and bonuses)

About The Role
Due to continued growth and development, we are looking for customer‑focused people to join our Utility Division, working on our Thames Water contract to deliver solutions to waste‑water network and drainage problems.
* Travel to residential sites via HGV in a two‑person team, operating high‑pressure water jets for restoration.
* Clean, clear and maintain drainage systems.
* Record each job report correctly on the specialist equipment provided.
* Run diagnostics and repairs on drains.
* Deliver excellent customer service.
* Maintain good health and safety practice while carrying out works.
* Ensure vehicle stock is full and replenished.
* Comply with health and safety responsibilities, including PPE, safe site setups and protecting Lanes employees, the public and other road users.
* Utilise VISTEC and Salesforce platforms.
* Operate JHL specification vacuum tankers and associated equipment.
* Safely access vehicle cabs, sites and offices using correct procedures (e.g., three points of contact).
* Manipulate flexible pipework safely using correct manual handling techniques.
* Work unsupervised in all weather conditions, wearing correct PPE or utilising the lone‑worker system.
* Dynamically risk assess site access and working conditions based on specific circumstances on arrival.
* Liaise with the client regarding process and any updates.
* Provide support to your colleagues.
* Conduct thorough inspections of tools, equipment and plant before and after use.
* Report any defects or malfunctions.
* Carry out risk assessments and have a mature approach to risk perception.
* Be aware of all Lanes Group policies and your responsibilities towards them.
* Perform any other reasonable ad‑hoc tasks, duties or projects as requested by management.
About You
The ideal candidate is hard‑working, respectful, and complies with health and safety standards. Experience with high‑pressure jetting equipment is useful but not essential. Other drainage qualifications (e.g., NRSWA, Confined Spaces) are an advantage.
You must have a minimum of an HGV Class 2 licence, completed the CPC certificate and an up‑to‑date digital tachograph card.
