Why this role would be great for you

We are seeking a compassionate, skilled and motivated Team Leader to provide strong operational leadership within our Domestic Abuse Service. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about supporting survivors of domestic abuse and is confident in leading teams to deliver trauma-informed, survivor-centred services.

This is an exciting opportunity to support the Service Manager in the delivery of a safe, high-quality service that empowers survivors, promotes recovery, and reduces risk.

Our Domestic Abuse Recovery Service provides safe accommodation survivors of domestic abuse. This includes supporting individuals to rebuild their lives through risk-informed support planning, advocacy, emotional and practical support, and partnership working. The service operates within a high-risk, safeguarding-focused environment, requiring strong leadership, sound judgement, and a visible presence.

About the role

The Team Leader will provide day‑to‑day operational leadership across the Domestic Abuse Recovery Service, ensuring the safety of residents and staff at all times.

You will be responsible for supervising and supporting members of the staff team, including completing regular supervisions, inductions, performance reviews and probationary documentation in line with People HR processes. You will also support rota management to ensure safe staffing levels, including the use of bank or agency staff where required.

The post holder is expected to maintain a strong presence within the service, manage their workload effectively, and support the manager in meeting contractual requirements, KPIs and quality standards. This includes identifying training needs, supporting staff development, and promoting a culture of reflective, trauma-informed practice.

You will liaise closely with a wide range of internal and external partners including MARAC, Police, Social Care, Health, Housing, Probation and specialist domestic abuse services. You will be confident in overseeing and quality‑assuring risk assessments (including MeRiT where applicable), support plans, case notes and safeguarding actions. You will also undertake case file audits to ensure high standards of record‑keeping and practice.

What your week may look like

The Team Leader will coach, mentor and support staff to deliver a safe, effective and trauma‑informed domestic abuse service.

Some of the expectations of the role include:

* Supporting the Service Manager with day-to-day management of the Domestic Abuse Service, including regular supervisions and staff support (across day and night teams where applicable)
* Acting as a point of escalation for complex cases, safeguarding concerns and high-risk situations
* Supporting the management of referrals, assessments and move-ons, maintaining strong relationships with key referrers and partner agencies
* Ensuring consistent, effective communication across the staff team and with the wider You Matter Management Team
* Attending or facilitating weekly team meetings
* Leading on monitoring, reporting and reviewing Incidents, Safeguarding and Health & Safety, and reporting to OLT (Operational Leadership Team)
* Supporting preparation for contract monitoring visits, inspections and quality audits
* Identifying training and development needs within the team and supporting the manager to address them
* Making recommendations to the Service Manager regarding service development, policy changes or resource requirements
* Promoting best practice in domestic abuse, safeguarding adults and children, and professional boundaries

The skills we are looking for:

EXPERIENCE

* Experience of working with survivors of domestic abuse and/or gender-based violence
* Experience of supporting individuals with complex needs, including mental health, substance misuse and housing instability
* Demonstrable leadership or supervisory experience
* Experience of adult and/or child safeguarding
* Experience of multi-agency and partnership working (e.g. MARAC, Police, Social Care)
* Experience of risk assessment and safety planning
* Experience of resettlement or move-on into safe, independent accommodation
* Experience managing incidents, maintenance or health and safety concerns
* Experience leading or supporting a staff team in a high-risk environment

KNOWLEDGE

* A strong working knowledge of domestic abuse, its impact and barriers faced by survivors
* Understanding of trauma-informed and survivor-centred practice
* Knowledge of safeguarding adults and children
* Understanding of complex needs including mental health, substance misuse and offending
* Excellent communication, engagement and interpersonal skills
* Strong administrative and case-recording skills

What is a nice to have

* Experience working within a Domestic Abuse service, refuge or IDVA context
* Experience of Trauma-Informed Care and psychologically informed environments (PIE)
* Experience of management or leadership within supported accommodation
* Knowledge and understanding of the Mental Health Act and/or housing legislation
