Overview
Head of Nursing for Medicine at Queen Elizabeth Hospital is a senior leadership role within the Divisional Management Team, reporting to the Divisional Director of Nursing and Governance. The post focuses on day-to-day delivery of high standards of patient care across integrated care pathways and services within the Trust, particularly in Medical Specialities and other division projects.
Responsibilities
* Provide professional and clinical leadership to clinical services, with a highly visible, authoritative leadership style aligned to Trust values.
* Deputise for the Divisional Director of Nursing and Governance when required; work with the Divisional management team and service leads to lead clinical services.
* Manage budgets for pathways and services within the portfolio, including cost improvement plans and early identification of cost pressures.
* Ensure staffing levels, leave management, mandatory training, and appraisals are up to date; participate in the Trust on-call rota.
* Ensure clinical services are within budget and achieve key performance indicators; deliver care with compassion and maintain a positive patient experience and high clinical quality standards measured by clinical indicators and audits.
* Maintain a highly visible leadership profile through quality rounds and proactive engagement with service areas; ensure pathways and services meet contracted activity and access targets.
* Develop local patient feedback systems, respond to adverse outcomes, and manage all complaints and incidents promptly and to a high quality.
* Contribute to the Division's business plan, delivery of quality and service improvement projects, and development programmes for modernising patient services.
* Deliver the Trust’s Equality and Diversity Strategy in terms of non-medical clinical staff recruitment, retention and development; support nursing/midwifery innovation and development within the division.
* Identify nursing/midwifery contributions to service development, delivery of QIPP, and achievement of the cost improvement programme; ensure robust governance and management systems are in place.
* Support the Divisional Director of Nursing and Governance and Service Leads in governance, risk management, and compliance with internal and external requirements; undertake root cause and trend analyses of complaints and incidents related to nursing/midwifery.
* Represent the Trust with partner organisations as appropriate and foster integrated working to improve patient care and involve the public and patients in assessing service quality.
