TEACHING ASSISTANT
RELATIONSHIPS: Responsible to Associate Assistant Principal (SENDCO)
JOB PURPOSE
To support individual students, small groups and classes of students in their learning journey and development.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
·To work within the SEND team to cater for student needs in their learning and development
·To discuss work and emerging needs of students, with colleagues, subject teachers, wider staff, students and parents
·To work with individuals, supporting their development in learning and in their literacy and numeracy, physical, SEMH, communication and sensory needs
·To develop an understanding of student needs and ‘Ways of Working’
·To develop Individual Learning Plans for students and review these documents regularly
·To enhance student’s self-esteem, confidence and sense of worth
·To develop student independence and resilience
·To build appropriate and supportive relationships with students
·To provide feedback to the relevant teacher regarding the work completed and attitude and behaviour of students
·To enable students to record classwork and homework correctly and when possible and appropriate
·To develop an understanding of the specific needs of the child(ren) concerned
·To create an orderly, positive and purposeful environment in which students can complete work
·To keep records of work undertaken with students which shows evidence of impact and progress made towards outcomes
·To undertake appropriate training and CPD
·To invigilate internal and external examinations when required
·Be aware of and comply with policies relating to child protection, health and safety, security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting concerns as appropriate
·Be aware of and support difference to help ensure everyone else has equal access to the facilities and feels valued, respecting their social, cultural, linguistic, religious and ethnic background
Note: To undertake any other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time which are commensurate with the grade of the post
